    Default Scale Obsession - discouraged

Realistically I know I will not lose every day, or even every other day.

I have 16 lbs to go, and I'm feeling like I'll never get there. That said, I know that's not true.

How does one "disengage" from scale obsession?

I had a strict rule where I only weighed myself on Monday while losing, and recorded it in a journal. Most weeks I lost, a few I gained (once 3 pounds!) and a few I stayed the same. If you can't do something like that, have someone hide your scale. It will mess with you!!

On maintainance I do weigh myself every day and typically am on target. Rarely I'm up or down one pound, but that doesn't bother me one bit. I don't want any surprises while maintaining.

I'm with you Annie!! I have 20 pounds to goal and was starting to obsess with the scale too. I have been holding for some time now but I hear that this is normal. I am going to incorporate more protein and exercise and then start weighing on the even days LOL....

My clothes are getting looser so not worried that I'm gaining just wish the scale would show it.

Ugh. I always say I'm going to weight myself once a week, but that never happens. I'm always anxious to see if another lb came off. It's been frustrating because I've only lost 3 lbs since Jan 1. It's just going really slow. But then again, I was doing 1000 cals on my 6 month pre-op diet and only lost 15 lbs. in 6 months

I might put my scale in an inconvenient place so that I'm not thinking about it every time I go to the bathroom!

I look at your numbers and am VERY jealous. 20lbs in month 3? Who does that??? If my numbers looked like yours I'd be on the scale every day. I'm losing so slowly and so erratically that my psyche just can't take daily weigh ins. Once a week is all I can handle.

I have no idea. LOL. I was a religious scale nut. I still am. But I was not ruled by it. Just liked to know what my body was doing and how different things affected my weight. I also took measurements every 2 weeks and pictures. I really think seeing them helped me not obsess over what the scale was doing. When I was to the point that I only lost a pound every week to 10 days I was totally fine with it. And then when I thought I was done losing my body had other plans. I thought 117 was going to be my weight. It was under goal so I was good with it. Then I had 2 more weight loss periods stopping at 113 and 108. I have been at 108 for a long time now. So think this is my final weight?

I'm obsessed with weighing too! So much so that today I weighed and I've put on 4 lbs!!!
I get upset because I'm eating nothing much and I don't have patience.
Frustrates me, I try eating but it's not going down well.
Going to the doctor on Thursday to get help with digestion probs.
I tried porridge for breakfast and it just sits in my throat or half way down.
I'm sorry I don't sound happy but it sucks feeling this way.

It does suck to feel frustrated, for sure.

I'm sorry you're dealing with that, but it's smart to see the Dr.

Frustrating Annie. I've just come back from the beach house and I have run so many km this week with a lot of hills by the coast. Running in paradise. Also been eating exactly the same as I always do and have not lost a pound this week... but my bikini pants fell off because they are too big!!! LOL. I only bought them 2 weeks ago!! We will get there, we will :-)

[QUOTE=Christie13;589178]Just liked to know what my body was doing and how different things affected my weight.

I think we are all ruled by the scales by virtue of having a weight loss goal.

Up until recently I have let the scales discourage me, if I didn't see any movement or a gain I would give up and fall off the wagon.

I tried to relax about the number and reflect what might have caused it to move as Christie said. But I have come to realise something, especially so for us girls, that sometimes there no direct explanation for a loss or gain given hormones, water retention, stress and other stuff that influences our weight on any given day.

So will I weight myself frequently - YES but will I stress over the number - NO because this is a marathon not sprint
