    Default Just Sleeved - Nausea???

Hello all! I have been reading the posts from this forum for a few months and the information provided has helped a lot with my decisions to have the surgery. My surgery was performed on January 17 at 7am and I was allowed to go home yesterday afternoon after showing my ability to drink a cup of water without issues over time. However, last night and this morning I have experienced some waves of nausea similar to day one post op where I feel like I might vomit but I manage not to. I’ve only been doing small spread out sips of water and a couple sugar free popsicles. I was wondering if anyone else experienced this and if there is anything I can do to combat it. Thank you!!

(hugs) It can be a slow process in the beginning. I was pretty nauseated too in the beginning. Just take it slow and you will soon heal. I am 6 months out and still have times of nausea but it is definitely much, much better.

My doctor (and many) give anti-nausea meds to take home from the hospital because it's so common. You might ask your doctor to prescribe some. I needed them a couple of times in the first few weeks and they really helped.

    Hi HMaryn,
I was sleeved on Jan.16th so we are sort of in the same boat! I was given a patch behind my ear to help with nausea. So far, so good. I hope you'll start to feel better each and every day. I'm having trouble getting water in. I'm sipping and walking as instructed but my gosh....I cannot believe I can't drink more at this point. My biggest complaint is the 'gurgling' and burping. I have a ton of air pockets that are uncomfortable. Do you have anything like that? Just curious, are you taking any vitamins yet? If so, which ones? That is on my ToDo list today. I am overwhelmed by the choices of bariatric vitamins out there.
I'm happy to see someone who was sleeved on almost the same day. It's good to bounce things off of one another. Wishing you better days ahead!

    Hi ItsMyTurn!

Thank you for your response! It is nice to have someone in the exact same boat as me. My nausea did get better yesterday which was good. I have had trouble getting liquids down so far. Yesterday I was happy to get one Premier Clear Protein drink and one 32 ounce bottle of water down but it literally took me ALL DAY. My dietician told me I could wait until the puréed stage to start my vitamins as they can cause upset stomach. I got chewable Bariatric Advantage multivitamins and calcium citrate. I purchased them on Amazon and they were a bit pricey but I figure I will be spending a lot less on food now so that doesn’t matter . My goal is to get out and walk more now that I feel a little better. I was sent home with lovenox shots, but I don’t want to take any chances with blood clots. Good luck!!

It is not uncommon. I can tell you that my surgeon prescribed an anti nausea for post op. I only had to use it about 4 times post op when it was really bad. It does get a little better each and every day. Just make sure to stay hydrated. That will help with the nausea. And little sips.

Sorry for how you're feeling. I was lucky to have never thrown up, ever. If it continues to be a problem call your surgeon for some anti-nausea meds, as I know many people deal with it. (Or maybe acid reflux meds, I'm not a doctor!!) Good luck.

I had my first visit with the surgeon today and that was one of my questions. I had laparoscopic surgery about a year ago and had quite a bit of post-op nausea. She assured me that I would be sent home with anti-nausea medication. That was quite a relief.

I was nauseous quite a bit for a few months after and the doctor actually prescribed me something that lowers the acid in your stomach and it really helped I can’t remember the name but might be good to ask your doctor about it
