Default A little concerned - but maybe no reason?

    Hi there,

I was sleeved on Jan 3 and things have been going really well. I did the liquid diet for 2 weeks and was able to eat 3/4 cup to 1 cup of soup no problem - that is, as long as I eat slowly I have no pain or discomfort. Today I started the puree, and that seems to be fine too - this am I ate 2 mashed hard boiled eggs, and all was good. I am eating Greek yogurt for snacks, and putting protein powder in all I eat. On this site I am reading about folks who can barely get a couple of tablespoons of food into them, and now I am worried that there may be something wrong here for me - should I be having pain or discomfort? Should I not be able to eat so much - my calorie intake is around 850.

I would love to hear from someone who had a similar experience as I did - I am beginning to wonder if my surgeon actually did the sleeve lol! I am not complaining, I am happy that I feel good. But is there something wrong here?? Thanks!

I’m here for the same reason, to ask the same question. I am a week out and I have no issues drinking water or broth. I’ve heArd some people have really bad issues swallowing. Worried that maybe I’ll be the odd man out and not lose any weight from my VSG surgery since this beginning stage is easy for me. I’ll be following this post for answers.

Everyone is different. As long as you follow the plan set for you you should be fine. I for one had a hard time, I am just 8 months out and still eating 4 ounces and having a hard time getting all my fluids and protein in.

    You will be fine!

A lot of people don't feel much restriction or discomfort during liquid or soft/pureed food phase. When you begin to eat solid proteins, you will definitely feel more fullness. I would just be mindful of my intake. As long as you are eating proteins and not crap foods you should be fine. Just follow what your NUT/surgeon set up for you. They all make our plans for a reason...no matter how different each plan is.

I feel a lot of restriction while trying any type of food. Eg. Eggs cheese fish vegies.
But I can handle soups shakes yoghurt coffee etc. all liquids really.
Heartburn and indigestion are my big concerns.
Everyone is different and I'm hoping I get over this problem soon.
I'd love it to be easier but if the weight comes off, I'm sure we're all on the right track.

Hi, make sure your taking a ppi like prilosec twice a day for the first few months at least. That will help reduce heartburn and inflammation. I always carry tums to use as needed. Good Luck

    Here is some info:

So, talk to your surgeon about this.
Let her/him inform you about what is best for you.
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

Congratulations on making this life saving decision. I had your surgeon and I can assure you 80% of your stomach was removed. Ive lost 143lbs past year. Has you can see from the other responses solid protein is harder to eat. You will feel restiction. Follow your diet, exercise and you will have success. 7BCCF858-9147-4D95-9A25-683A0C42D824.jpeg

I had exactly the same concern but it all changed when I started solids. I'm actually now struggling to get my calories up without consuming liquid calories.

sraebaer shared that Premier Protein (the liquid shakes) makes a great creamer, and you get a protein & liquids. I put it in my coffee and it has helped me do better with the solids later in the day. Just a thought!
