    Default Frustrated

So I have been on this liquid preop diet for over a week, surgery next Tuesday. I have only lost 3 pounds! I know everyone is different and I told myself I wouldn't compare but it feels horrible being hungry, tired and no energy all the time. My biggest fear is I won't lose but 10% to 15% of the average. I have Hashimotos and hypothyroidism and was told years ago it would very difficult for me to lose weight, something about gaining by just breathing.

    It just stinks!

    Thanks for letting me vent,
    Kimberly

    Don't be discouraged.
    Every body is different.
I have a friend with Hashimoto's and did really well with her wls.
I also have hypothyroidism and look at me!
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

Don't stress of what you might not lose and focus on what you need to do. Maybe you will be a slow loser but you will lose. Each pound adds up and you may just surprise yourself. Keep on keeping on my friend!

    Hi Kim!
I know it’s difficult. I’m a slow loser as well. On my 6 month pre-op diet, I was doing 800-1000 cals/day plus exercise and only lost 15 lbs in those 6 months.
Since surgery (3 months ago), I’m now back up to 700-800 cals/day and losing 1 lb per week or so. Again, very slow, but better than before surgery.

Because I lose so slowly, I only weigh myself once a week. I find that helps with my weight anxiety. I also recommend taking body neasurements.
I tend to lose more inches than lbs coming off on the scale, so that’s really helped keep me motivated outside of the scale.

Good luck, and hang in there!

I actually think the pre-op diet may be the worst part of the whole process. I felt like gnawing on my arm I was so hungry and I didn't lose very much either. My pre-op diet was liquid shakes and one Lean Cuisine meal. I couldn't wait for that meal and would eat it and still feel hungry. Today I tried to eat a Lean Cuisine and couldn't finish it. Just hang in there. In less than a week you'll be trying to force yourself to eat & drink.
I tell myself that those of us who lose slowly will have less problems with loose skin.... : )

Dale is right - I had a hard time on the pre op diet, but that's because I was hungry! (or "hangry" if you ask my family).
It's the journey, not the destination -- relax back into it and you'll be feeling so much better soon

That really makes sense - I mean you still have the hunger hormones so it is tough going before the surgery and then you can't eat anything. Makes me feel better about starting the pre-op when that time comes.

Hang in there Kimberly. Don't let the crappy pre op make you feel like won't be successful. The pre op is hard and no guarantee that you will lose much but post op you WILL be successful. Even if you are a slower loser, you will lose weight with the sleeve. As long as you follow the rules. Just remember that stress does a number on your body. So try to breathe. I know, easier said than done. You got this!!

Thanks everyone. I go to my last preop appointment tomorrow and I am so afraid of what the Dr will say about not losing on preop diet. I am trying to stay positive.

Don't worry about the pre-op diet. I didn't lose much during that either. I feel like my body was in starvation mode and hanging on to the pounds for dear life lol. You will do great. Try not to stress over it because that can work against you. You've got this!!! Best of luck.

(hugs) Hang in there and trust the process. The pre-op is to shrink your liver and get you in the best possible condition for the WLS. You will lose... the rate of weight loss is different but you will lose my friend xo
