Default Finding cirrhosis during surgery ...

So ... I had my surgery 25 days ago, and during surgery they seen I have some amount of cirrhosis of the liver. They still did the surgery and the dr told me he wants me to see a liver specialist, but that I could wait till the end of feb and heal up first. Well now I am starting to freak out ...

Has anyone else has this happen that they found cirrhosis?

My liver biopsy taken during surgery showed scar tissue damage and I was sent to a liver specialist. My first bloodwork showed where the damage was and how much. I went back six months later after losing about 60 pounds, and all of the damage has reversed itself. My liver is normal now. Another NSV! Hope your liver heals as well.

Your reply gives me so much hope. I been really scared since I was told I have some degree of cirrhosis. Did you have a lot of damage to your liver. My dr said I have a lot of scar tissue but it doesn’t look like I have portal hypertension or any varicose. I also think I have been reading way to much about it and convinced I have stage 4.

Be of good cheer on this one! First, they found it. Mine was found by biopsy in 1984, and with my weight gain it got quite large (also, Tylenol (acetominiphine) is liver toxic, and of course alcohol doesn't help.

However, after my so far weight loss, my liver enzymes are normal, no pains, etc. Probably what they will tell you (I'm not a doc nor do I play one on TV) is NASH (non-alcoholic Stearotatic Hepatitis) which mimics cirrhosis like you'd get if you over served regularly on alcohol.

Also, the liver is a regenerative organ; worst case, one can have a small piece of healthy liver transplanted and it regenerates, magically ends up with your DNA and you are well.

But prayers for a good outcome.
