Welcome! I haven't had the band, but I'm sure there will be someone here that can help find an answer.

Hi and welcome! I had a band back in 2009 and had problems with it plus I didn't do very well with it so it was removed in 2016. My insurance would not pay for a revision but would pay to remove it. I was weighing in at about 199 then with co-morbidities but they still wouldn't do it . I gained weight once it was removed, as most do, and my highest was 250. I changed insurance and was approved for the sleeve in November of this year. Because of the band, the surgery did take a little bit longer (scarring, plus I had a hiatal hernia) but I don't think there has really been anything different as far as recovering and future plans go. Hope this helps a little . Good luck and again, welcome!

Yup. Quite a few band to sleeve revisions on here. They all lose. People who are having a second WLS tend to lose a bit slower than virgin WLS patients.

    Hi Cosytoes

I am having my revison next Monday. My surgeon want me to wait a minimum of 4 months between band removal and the revision. Due to blood clot complications it turned into 8 months. The good news is you may only need one operation, but you may lose weight more slowly than our fellow virgin sleevers.

If you have to have in two ops and need to wait there is a silver lining - you may lose better after having the break, depending how tight your band has been lately, and your band pouch/upper stomach has a chance to shrink back to (normal?) shape.

My surgeon thinks I may have some small scaring as after the band was removed as I experienced flow of my stomach contents back up my throat/mouth, ususaly if I ate a lot, but he is not concerned, nor does anything indicate I have Hiatal hernia.

    Good luck tomorrow !

Good luck! I never had the band, but have sure heard horror stories. Many people here convert from the band to the sleeve. I'm sure you will learn a lot!

When I had my surgery over 4 years ago the band was a choice, but now my surgeon doesn't do the band anymore.
