    Default Struggle

I think I might be having a mental struggle. I am Day 19 post op and I am still on full liquids I can try some soft foods at 21 days but it seems so far away. I just want to try something soft an egg, chicken just somthing. I have eaten some mustard just for flavour I am not even sure if I am suppose to eat mustard. I also know once I try soft foods it might not agree with me.

    Just so frustrated.

It's OK. I'm willing to bet you're not gonna die. It's not like you're eating pizza 3 days post-op. Yes, people have tried that. Ugh.

The first month really can be challenging. We all understand!

    Best to you.

Are you going from liquids to soft foods without purees in between? I was on purees after the first week and that was a good transition. I started out pureeing protein-rich soups (like Annie's) and trying to stay more liquid. Then moved on up to more full bodied purees. See if that helps.

I was on liquids for 2 weeks. I could not take it any more at 10 days and went to my soft/pureed foods. It was a good move for me. I would eat soft foods before moving on to something solid like chicken. That will be a whole different story. You don't have that much to lose so I am surprise you are on the liquid phase for so long.

Yea my dr has me on liquid phase 3-4 weeks at 3 weeks I can start trying soft and on 4 completely go into soft foods. I am on soft foods for 4 weeks before I can try anything. Because of my long liquid phase I skip purée. I tried a little cheese tonight it was good. I am worried about hurting my healing stomach though.

I pureed lasagna, it was the best thing ever. I just used the stick blender and then ate it with a teaspoon. I added a bit of V8 juice (not much) just to make sure it wasn't too dry.

Not sure what post-op instrucs your surgeon gave you, but "pureed lasagna" was not on my list. In fact, pastas of all kind were OFF my list until I reached my goal weight.

All my weight loss phases' descriptions went like this: Protein first. Then fibrous veggies. Then fruits. Then whole grains. That progression took several months for me.

As always, others' mileage may vary.

You're right, however, for the first couple of weeks I was eating so little that so long as there was enough protein in it, the surgeon was happy because I dropped weight very quickly. Mostly I stuck to soups with chicken or beef in them and pureed them with my stick blender. No pasta, potato or corn. I also made bakes with eggplant and tomatoes etc which when blitzed were very tasty. What I am trying to say is that yes stick to the high protein, low carb diet, but if you are not getting enough calories, sometimes you need to look for alternatives. I'm down 46kgs and my surgeon and nutritionalist are happy with my diet and progress. I keep records of my diet for them to review each visit.

I felt the same and went to pureed foods 3 days before schedule. It was just fine. My body needed it. Just make sure the food is super mushy. I tell you what nothing tasted so good as that first bite of pureed chicken! Strange world we live in where we can't wait to eat pureed meat! Lol

Ann, Mine were/are the same as yours. I've not been in a hurry, because it is, after all, the rest of my life and I chose this.

I did buy a "zoodle" maker for veggie pasta, but have yet to try it. I've done very dry, lo carb crackers, etc., I tasted tortellini, as in put it in my mouth and spit it out. I knew it was a very bad idea for me.

But we're all different. I did make the recipe for pasta-less lasagna (you know, the suar free sauce, ricotta one) during puree.

Thanks for always having "veteran" info

At 3 weeks (Day 15 since surgery) I could start mushy foods. If you want to try something soft like an egg, I don't think it would hurt anything. It's odd that different surgeons have different rules.

But not lasagna! That doesn't follow the protein first then veggies rule. Maybe low-fat greek yogurt, but not pasta.

English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

I agree with everyone else. Everyone is different. Different restrictions, different tastes, and different habits/control. I am seriously struggling with the pure liquids thing and have started eating some soft stuff here and there...like I did eat some softly scrambled eggs the other day. It was like a half an egg. I felt fine but still know I need to take it easy. I'm 10 days out and couldn't take it anymore. All I've had the last couple of days are liquids though. Just hang in there but I think a few days early isn't going to hurt anything.
