Hi! I am new to the site and scheduled to be sleeved with Dr. Almanza on 3/16/18. Any pre-op diet tips or what to pack tips would be greatly appreciated!
Hi, I had Dr A. He is outstanding along with his team. Best decision I ever made. Things I recommend to bring our: Soup cubes, you will have access to hot water. easy way to make broth on plane and at airport. your on clear liquids for a week postop, bring comfortable clothes for after surgery, slippers or slip on shoes for walking in the hospital, bathrobe for hospital, you will be walking a lot after surgery, if your on meds you will need liquid meds if your meds can’t be crushed, if they can bring pill crusher, You can’t swallow pills for 4 weeks. gas x strips that disolve on tongue or chewable if u can’t find for first 24hrs after surgery, tums if extra heartburn relief, Dr A will give you a ppi for the first 10 days, after that buy nexium or prevacid and take twice a day, content in capsule can be emptied into applesauce just don’t break the tiny pearls before swallowing, heating pad, ted hose to wear on plane ride to help circulation, Weight loss agents will give you a list also before surgery and before pre op diet. Just make sure to follow without cheating, very important for safest surgery. While your waiting you can work on habits that caused you to need WLS. Remember this is just a tool. Also will not change your brain and it will try to get you to eat like before. It will take time to reprogram your brain. Also start walking or exercising if not already. Will help afterwards. I wish you the very best and if you have any more questions I’m happy to answer if i can. Welcome! It's great to have you here. I'll be 3 months out on Friday, and it goes very quickly. Everyone is very kind & supportive here. So glad I found this instead of the FB groups, which posed some very odd questions. "How far out after VGS can I smoke dope?" wasn't one I care about knowing an answer to, lol.
Congrats on the decision and welcome to the "Sleeved" life! The one thing I could say with my short time being sleeved, is follow the Doctors direction exactly as presented. Don't vary at all until they give you the OK to experiment. This really helped me and after reading MANY stories on this site, it seems like the ones that venture off course are the ones that run into problems. Not saying I did not have any, but they seem really minor in comparison. Just focus your mind on what your life will be like on 3/16/2019. Get ready for an awesome ride back into life!!

Good Luck!! I had the same surgeon. I was great. One thing I would bring is plenty of $1 bills. When I was in the hotel they would bring soup broth to our rooms the broth was free but I would tip them $1 each time. I ran out of small bills the first day! Good Luck
