Default Has anyone had terrible heartburn?

I hadn't had any troubles. I'm just over 3 months out. I just finished my 3 months of Pantoprazole. I am having acid reflux so bad I don't want to eat at all. Any suggestions? I thought maybe the food was a little too spicy, but it even does it with just chicken. I would love some of your excellent advice. I also noticed my allergies have been causing me alot of drainage, this used to always cause me to eat to keep my stomach calmed down, well, now that isn't going to work. It's just mad.

Talk to your surgeon -- maybe you need a hiatal hernia repair or tune-up. Maybe you'll need to take antacids (not sure what kind) the rest of your life. Some people do. Maybe it's what and when you're eating, e.g., people with acid reflux should not eat anything for 2 hours prior to lying down to nap or sleep. Sorry -- but it's just what a lot of people who have reflux deal with.

There's tons online about how to treat heartburn/reflux. Maybe a Google cruise might help you find lifestyle changes you could implement and benefit from?

Keep taking your Pantoprazole, you may need it for awhile longer... I'm a year out and I take mine every night.

I've had to give up anything spicy, and anything that might seem greasy. My stomach just isn't the same. That's a good thing even though I miss salsa.....

When I saw my nutritionist the other day she asked if I could tolerate chicken. That's about all I eat but she said some people have a harder time with chicken than anything else. So apparently even some very bland foods cause problems.

I used to have an iron stomach. Traveled all over the world and ate whatever I was given without any problem. Now I can eat something one day and the next it upsets my new little diva tummy. I am thankful that I can't tolerate sweets anymore.

It really depends on the person if they will require long term acid reflux medication or not. If it is really, really bad I have heard that some people convert to bypass. That is something I would NOT want to do. I don't have it nearly as bad now but I also have a more delicate tummy when it comes to spicy foods. I did have a hiatal hernia repair with my surgery, though.

I never had reflux or gerd or anything prior to surgery. I have it now. I have it bad. Pantoprazole has been great for the last 3.5 years, but even it is starting to let me down. I take it first thing in the morning, and am now starting to have bad heartburn at night. Clearly, I'm never coming off the stuff, and maybe needing to up my dose. Sucks, but what can be done about it now other than converting to bypass? Anyone know? And I wonder if I can convert to bypass. I sire don't want to, but man, this stuff is brutal.
