It's A Go!!

So I'm at work right now and received a phone call from my bariatric surgeon's office....my surgery was approved by Tricare. So I am having my surgery on Tuesday. This is such a relief to me from my situation yesterday. This will be the greatest Christmas gift ever...a new lease on life! Plus my mom and step dad are coming to stay with me tomorrow to help me through the surgery and they will be here until the new year...so I'm so excited about that too! Well that's all the update I have for now.

My surgery was last Tuesday (12/5). I was so relieved when I got that date! You're very lucky to have your parents around to help but if it goes like mine, you won't even have pain when you get home. I'm a week out and feeling wonderful. Just fair warning - you're not gonna feel so great right out of the surgery. It wipes you out and you'll be very tired. Also, I was so nauseous for 3 days and I kept thinking it was the surgery. Turned out it was the doggone narcotic they had me on for pain. I wasn't even in pain but I hit that pump trying to SLEEP. I got no sleep in the hospital I was in. So when I got home, I went straight to bed for 14 hours and woke up a new woman! All the best to you!! I am excited for you!

Great news, Johnetta! Awesome! So glad everything has worked in your favor. I know it can be a trying time what with getting approval from insurance, pre-op diets, nutrition classes, etc., but is all well worth it in the end!

Hurray! I had my surgery right before Thanksgiving and it was really nice to let others handle more of the work during the holiday. Enjoy having others take care of you. So glad you were able to get through all the hoops.

I had my surgery on Nov 13 I am down 30 lbs now. I have been in the hospital for dydration BUT would not change a thing. Good luck with your surgery.

That is awesome Johnetta!!! My sister had to self pay 6 years ago because at the time Tricare would only pay for gastric bypass and not sleeve. She had done her research and did not want the bypass. She has no regrets even though she paid out of pocket. So happy for you that Tricare has changed their policies and added the sleeve to the approved list. And it is going to be awesome to have your family there.

I saw your bio and just HAD to say hi. We are both Pittsburgh girls, have legal experience, love a good con, enjoy dancing, and have autoimmune issues. We both ALSO had sleeves in December. We are practically twins.

I am hoping that both of us have a great experience on our journeys!
