Default Went for check up today

I went to see my surgeon today and he was very pleased with my sleeve. He said it was quick and easy with
no problems whatsoever. He even showed me my video of the operation. Great what they can do.
He said I should see my doctor and have my blood pressure checked because he thinks I shouldn't need my medication for it.
Also, I can try soft food if I want to as well as puréed.
When I got home though, I thought yippee! I'll try a slice of chicken meat. Boy! Did I pay. I was very ill.
I then had a cry, thinking is this it? Is this all I can have, puréed food forever?
I know everyone says it gets better but I really wanted that chicken slice but suffered because of it.
    Slow and steady, I'll try.

Oh gawd I did that too Jean!!! Chicken and meat are very tricky at the moment, I do manage a bit of chicken now but thought I might try to make a nice chicken casserole, maybe that will make it easier. You'll have a few hiccups and a few tears but we will both get there in the end. Sounds like you have been given a tick of health from the surgeon. It will be good if you can give up the bp pills. You're doing great! :-)

I know in the moment right now it seems like it will never get better but it does. You are only a few weeks out of major stomach surgery. It is still angry and swollen. Give it time. Hugs!

Ah honey. Don't worry. I promise it will get better and you will be able to eat. I was really wanting food and about 5 or 6 days post op I had a wedge of that laughing cow soft cheese. (And they are tiny...less than an ounce.) Boy did I pay for it. I had a bout of dumping syndrome. It was instant diarrhea, sweating, cramping, nausea...oh my GOD was it awful. So my advice...just don't rush things. Hang in there.....you will be eating food before you know it. Just remember slow is your best friend. Allow yourself to feel your new full. Eating too fast or too much in the beginning is painful. Our eyes are WAY bigger than our stomachs.

Thanks for you're thoughts and caring words.
I went out for tea last night and ordered the soup. 4 spoonfuls later, I had had enough.
My two grandchildren were there so I gave the rest to them. They scoffed it up.
I was happy though, then today everyone came for lunch. Chicken, rolls, cheeses, biscs and mud cake!
My favorite cake or it used to be. I didn't even feel hungry or fussed that I couldn't have.
I could eat the avocado in the salad. Yum. Also a little cheese. Cracker was a no no. It just sat in my throat and
wouldn't shift. Had to wash it down.
Anyway, going to try a little bit of egg tonight for tea and some more soup.
As you all explained to me, slow and steady. I'll get there.

I've moved on to "real" soft food now and my bad habits are really getting me. I eat too fast. Feel like it's all going down well and I'm still putting food in when all of a sudden the 'back-up' occurs. Or think I'm still hungry but should have waited a few minutes. Or don't chew as much as I should.... I've always been an eat on the run person but this new tummy needs more attention. I can eat most things if I eat them super slowly and chew them really well. But almost anything I rush causes problems.

Dale, I eat SO much more slowly now than I did 4 years ago pre-op. Even hubby used to comment on how fast I ate.

But no longer. Post-op I got used to eating more slowly, and those good behaviors have become part of my new-normal lifestyle.

All those post-op behaviors are great things to practice and take along with you into maintenance.

Chicken was what I ordered the first time I went out to eat post surgery and I almost died. Literally. Way too dense! But don't worry, it won't last long. If you are like me, before long you will be able to eat anything and everything with no issues. Just take your time, try things, and see what works for you now.

Cook your chicken all day in a crock pot with some sauce (I like the sweet baby ray's buffalo sauce) and it gets so tender it will almost melt in your mouth.

Fish has always been my friend, so much easier on the tummy than dense meats. Good luck experimenting! And know it's totally normal that everything won't work for you right away.

You’ll get there! I did the same thing. I tried tuna the first day I could have soft foods. Oh my God, bad idea! I was having horrible stomach cramps, thought I was going to die. I’m exactly 2 months out and I’m still learning. Still have trouble with meats. I’m also still struggling with slower eating. There’s a lot to learn with this and it is frustrating sometimes. But it’s worth it! I’ve heard some people say it takes 6 months or more before you get it all figured out.
    Good luck!
