the only reason I know I have GERD is from the pre-op EGD. I have no symptoms.

I do not have GERD nor have I ever nor have I had to medically manage any gastro issue. I just passed my three year mark and although I have just about 5;bs that varies at at times, but no significant gain, may have lost more but love m&ms too much! 100 lbs enough for me! It seems that many more people seem to have issues with it, but I am blessed not to deal with it. Never had it when I was pregnant either.... Don't know....

    Good luck to azladyrider...

    Michelle

So far now that I have stuck with the meds - Pantoprazole it's all but gone away. The burping is still here but not the pain thank god. Just hate the thought of taking meds every single day

Uh, you do realize that if you have a bypass you'll have to take a helluva lot more pills every single day than Pantoprazole?

Bypass patients HAVE to take daily vitamins / minerals / supplements because of the malabsorption of nutrients created by a bypass.

From what I've read, the long term prevalence of GERD after VSG is ~35%. I've read some research suggesting that the incidence of de novo GERD (i.e., someone developing GERD when they didn't have GERD preop) is a bit lower (~10% if I recall correctly).

Out of curiosity - does anyone here NOT have GERD? (i.e., so little that it does not need to be medically controlled?)

azladyrider, I'm so sorry that this has come up Best of luck with your decision!
I have very little GERD, if I eat reasonnably I dont have it at all

I was wondering the same thing....bypass seems like a pretty drastic method of controlling heartburn

I'll be 2 yrs out the end of May and I've noticed an increase in barfing up that thick, white foamy stuff, and slimey mucous bubbles.
