No way would I do it. Do you have any serious medical conditions? If so, a bracelet (or tattoo??) would probably be a good idea. But I don't consider my sleeve a serious medical condition.

I already have tattoos. @sraebaer my only condition is my sleeve. And it really isnt a condition however the "blind ng tube" is my concern. Bracelets break. I would hate for something to happen and they hurt my new pouch!

I have tats and I would never tattoo my sleeve on my wrist as a medical alert bracelet. That being said, I personally do not feel that I need a medical alert bracelet for my sleeve either. Just saying. It is a personal preference I guess.

Agrooms, Drive your own bus on this one. I know you have mentioned this a couple of times and clearly it is a concern for you. My first thoughts were... hmmmm you know, I don't think it would be a problem in an emergency as I've never shoved an ng tube down in a resus and maybe the issue would only be if you ended up in ICU.

But then because you brought it up again i thought i'd have a little search and see what came up. I spotted a study where the American gastro peeps said that they found no perforations from ng tubes in a study they performed:

    https://www.sages.org/meetings/annua...porcine-model/

... for the people that don't know, this is the concern, perforation and then septacemia and shamoz.... but then I found this case https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3523757/ in which the patient died after perforation and the staff wern't aware of the gastric surgery. This was found on autopsy which was incidental as at first it was put down to death from the pneumonia. One of those random autopsies that shows the real reason and everyone gasps!

In saying that, I probaly still wouldn't bother having a med bracelet as I think it would be rare to end up with an ng but it's clearly a legitimate concern. I've probably convinced you to have one even more now but I wouldnt go tattoo, I don't look at tattoos in an emergency, I'm concentrating more on the resus.. but paramedics are good spotters of medical ID bracelets, so if you are concerned enough then I would stick with that.
It's an interesting subject so thanks for bringing it up :-)

I don't have a medical bracelet/tattoo, but I have a friend who is type 1 diabetic and allergic to penicillin, and because of what turned into a very risky pregnancy, her tattoo may have actually saved her life (and her son's life) twice.

I'm good at getting myself worked up, so I've been keeping myself busy until I fly out next week. Thankfully, college finals (and term papers) are effective diversions.
