Default Howdy from Fort Worth, TX

Going to lurking/learning for a while. Haven't had the surgery yet. Waiting to start the process in Jan (new Insurance kicks in). Found out i have to jump thru several hoops before insurance will authorize it.

Hello! I am right there with you. I have jumped through the BC/BS hoops to try and get my surgery before the end of the year, but someone at the office dropped the ball on requesting one of my clearances, and that set things back almost a month. Now I HAVE to change insurance carriers at work to United Healthcare in January, and depending on the plan, although it is covered, I may have to have additional classes or documentation of attempted weight loss before I can schedule my surgery. It is all such a pain!!!!! I just keep telling myself that the worse part was making the decision - now that I have finally faced that I can not do this on my own, the rest should be easy. I absolutely hate having to depend on other people to turn paperwork in and stuff like that when my surgery depends on them. I have had to stay on the office staff about making my appointments since the latest hiccup, so we shall see if I can indeed make the deadline, or if I have new hoops to jump starting in January.

Again, welcome - for just about any problem or question you have, somebody here is going through or has gone through it already. Great group of people!

    Hi Hoosier!

Just wanted to say congrats on the decision to move forward and better your quality of life, and to let you know that although it is a process getting approved, it is well worth the wait in the long run. Hang in there.

    Roger,
Welcome you are in the right place. You and I are about the same starting weight and goal weight. I am 6 foot tall even and I started my 2 week pre-op diet at 307 and my surgery weight was 287. I am at almost 2 months out and weigh 249. Keep plugging away at that insurance issue. Get in you surgeon/hospital program and jump through all the needed hoops. I feel great, it was worth it. Check back here often and ask all your questions, there are so many great folks on this forum and they know their stuff. Good luck

Welcome...it's a small world...I'm in north Fort Worth (north of Haltom City, south of Keller, east of Saginaw, and west of Watauga) after having lived in southwest Fort Worth for 12 years.

I was sleeved 2.5 years ago and my only regret is not having undergone weight loss surgery 10 years ago. Yes, I definitely wish I would have done it sooner.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes! I find myself questioning my decision, because I'm always wondering if I've done everything I can do to lose weight before taking this surgery step. We bought bikes a couple of weeks ago for the specific reason of losing weight (and having fun). We are also joining a gym this coming weekend. Now I wonder if I should wait and see where that leads me. But to be honest, even if I did lose the weight (as I have in the past), it's a lot easier putting it back on than losing it. ugh.
With encouragement from this forum - it makes the decision easier....all the "i wish i had done it sooner" folks.
    Thanks again to you all!

    Hi Roger!

Welcome to the forum! I lurked on here about 8 months before I got my surgery. Everyone here has been very encouraging, supportive, have gotten great advice from the folks here.

It was about an 8 month long process for me to get the surgery, but it went by fast and I'm so glad I did it! I'm 6 weeks out and have lost 30 lbs. Best decision I ever made. I don't know about others here, but my cravings have pretty much been nipped in the bud. I just don't want the food anymore. For me, it feels like I've been cured of an addiction.

    Good luck on your journey!!

Let's be honest. Most of us could lose weight. Often times, lots of it. BUT we could not sustain that weight loss. I have yo-yo'd for 20 years. I am finally maintaining a healthy weight with no effort. It is amazing. I am so happy I did this. I also went the insurance route. I started in mid May of 2016 and was sleeved November 2016. It was absolutely worth every hoop I jumped through. I love my sleeved life.

Welcome Roger. I enjoyed the hoops. I learned so much in the program I was in getting to my surgery date. If you use the time, you learn the tools to make this a success.
