These following statistics are from my own twisted mind from info gathered from the internet. It must be correct if I got it from Google.
1. The average age of a sleeve patient is 42. The average age range is 16-65, however patients received sleeve surgery as young as 12 and as old as 80. I was 65 on my surgery date. I took 23 years to make a decision.
2. 80-83% of sleeve patients are women. Now either you women are smarter than us men and know something that we don't know. Or maybe us men are smarter and want you women to have more surgeries to make sure that when us men get it done our doctors finally have it figured out.
3. Average cost of a self pay sleeve surgery.
Mexico $5,000 - $11,000 US dollars. $8,000 being quoted as average.
USA $9,600 - $26,000 US dollars $16,800 being quoted as average.
4. The "ideal" weight number. There are so many variables with all of us it is impossible to look at someone and say this is your ideal weight. I started my 2 week pre-op diet at 307. My surgery weight was 288. My "ideal" weight chart claims I should be 161-184. About me, I played high school football at 208 and was very fast and lean. I ran respectable time 5ks and 10ks at 235-245 lbs. I entered competitive weightlifting events in the 220, 242 and 275lbs class. If I get down under 180 I would look and feel ill. My goal is 208.
5. The average weight loss percentage with a sleeve is 55-72% of the excess of your ideal weight in 12-18 months. My surgeon at the world renowned Cleveland Clinic told me he hopes for 60%. I'm OK with that.
6. Average weight loss per month. The first month is 15-30 lbs. with 8-12 for the next 6 months. Well that is OK if we need to lose 100-180 pounds but how about some of us that only need to lose 80? My numbers are 25 in the first month and 15 in the second month. I'm happy with that. Again so many variables that nothing is average.
I hoped you enjoyed my observations. If you think I am completely on point or totally nuts I'm ok with that too. I want everyone on this forum to lose weight to improve your quality of life. If it means losing 200 or 45lbs. then that is outstanding.
Feel free to disagree with any of my off the wall comments. I'm sure your experience and knowledge exceeds mine.
