    Default Thanksgiving

So, I just watched this video
    https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/...=headline&te=1

by the NYT and there is no hot mess of sweet pototo and marshmallow. Have to say I was a bit dissapointed! It is about how to cook your feast in 8 hours... so gosh, it's like you do 2 christmas days really, like a month apart. I wouldn't mind this as I don't mind cooking, but I would never make the hot mess ;-)

There is rather a nice looking salad in this video and an apple and cranberry crumble. It doesn't look like too much of a crazy unhealthy meal. I just can't stop thinking about the fried things on a stick and the hot mess!!!!

I'm trying to think of similar Australian things.... I guess that would be a chicko roll which is some kind of substance in a battered kind of envelope and a dagwood dog which is a battered sausage on a stick!!!! England can be a bit guilty of the batter on everything too, battered savaloy (hot dog sausage) is popular and for a while in Scotland battered Mars bars (chocolate bars) were a thing!!!!!!!!!! I don't think that really took off though even in Scotland, My dad's Scottish and we are born with lard in our veins! That might account for the high cholesterol!

Anyway don't eat these things or the hot mess or it will kill you!
I envisage it being a bit quiet on here due to all the thanksgiving shamoz going on.
Also a thought for peope who might be spending their Thanksgiving alone, feel free to message me and we can talk about hot messes!!! xxx

I have never liked the sweet potatoes covered in marshmallows. The whole concept grossed me out. I do not like my meat or veg to be sweet. That is just me, though. I will eat sweet potatoes now if they are roasted in the oven with a touch of olive oil and sea salt.

When I think of all the foods I can't eat anymore, I have mourned no food like I have mourned fish n'chips. When I go home to England I am resolved that I will at some point crack under the pressure and end up loitering outside the local chippy snorting the scent of battered fish up my nose like a cocaine addict.

Haha well that's fair enough! I'm going home next Christmas and you may even find me on the same street corner just for a little nibble!!! Little tastes and moderation I reckon!!

Oh well, just follow the 80-20 rule and you'll be fine!
Eat healthy 80% of the time and indulge in something you really like the other 20%.
    I like that rule!
Allthough I don't follow it (yet).
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

You can have it. Just a small amount. When I went home to Italy for almost 3 weeks I ate. I had cappuccino and pastries daily and gelato almost every day. I was 8 months post op. I also earned it. I would walk to and from both the ice cream shop and coffee shop. It is almost 2 miles each way.

I have to say, Thanksgiving was absolutely great for me. I had my protein first and took tiny bites of almost everything else. I even took a bite of pumpkin pie. It was the first year I didn't overeat and feel bloated. It felt really good. I am looking forward to the rest of the holidays. Now, if I can only tolerate wine, I will be even happier. I really think it's all in moderation, just pace yourself.

I'm still in the pureed phase but you can puree anything.... I've heard so many of you say that you forget to eat and have no appetite but I'm afraid I never lost mine. I seem to go from full to hungry. Also, I didn't lose my desire for any of the things I used to love. So I'm trying to be careful that I don't slide down that slippery slope. Had a nibble of apple pie and wanted to eat the whole thing. I'm having a hard time figuring out where I need to draw the line so I use my tinier tummy to teach my hungry brain to call it quits. Think I may need to stay away from certain things altogether for awhile.

I get hungry Dale, just when I'm coming u towards needing to eat, then I eat and I'm full in 2 spoonfuls. It is really interesting how we think we need more but our tummies say NO! Are you getting full with what you are eating?

I think I eat too fast. I can eat almost half a cup of pureed anything. I feel full in my esophagus before my stomach. Or maybe that is my stomach now. It's like I only feel full when the food is physically not going down. Then about 2 hours later I feel hungry again. I think my signals are crossed somewhere. I am taking a daily pill to prevent gas so that doesn't seem to be the issue.

One of the things I learned is that our signals can be crossed. Often, our hunger signals are actually thirst signals but we can't recognize it anymore.
