    Default Cholesterol

Well I went to see my PCP on the recommendation of the surgeon. My Cholesterol in now high. Its gone up 3 points since the my surgery. Has this happened to anyone? My doc is perplexed as it would seem that with the weight loss it would have stayed int he normal range. UGH!

    Stacey,

I was given the choice by my PCP to go on statins or wait 3 months and see if the levels are still up. I opted to go in the statins ( not that I want tho take them) as I don't want the levels to continue to go up. I am on th e lowest dose and will be checked in 6 weeks. My thinking is to ge it down let my body stabilize from being sleeves and the healing and new eating process and then go off the meds and have have it checked. Hopefully it will have stayed down.

So much of cholesterol is genetics. My dad has high cholesterol and is stick thin. Sometimes you can lower by increasing the hdl or good cholesterol through exercise and not smoking. But you may want to ask other family members if theirs is high.......may be only so much you can do. Congratulations on you wt loss!

I agree with SimplySeahorse. My friend had cholesterol problems and she was super skinny. Hers was genetic. As for eating habits, maybe opt for leaner cuts of meat? I doubt you are eating a bunch of stuff with trans fat in it or fried foods so not sure what to tell you. My levels were good even when I was fat.

Thanks to everyone don't have a family history and I was all good prior to surgery. Can't eat any leaner and cleaner than I am now. But as I said my level increased by 30 in 6 months. So we shall see down the road.

I would check it again in a couple months. While I eat low carb, my family eats keto (high fat, less than 20g carb per day). Cholesterol is known to go up the first 3 months and then go down. My husband is a heart patient so this was a big concern. His dr is beyond pleased with his numbers after 6 months.
