    Default Southern Living!

Off to the south (Mississippi), land of everything fried. Wish me luck! I'm cooking dinner which will be (for me) turkey and fresh green beans. I'll add some of that other traditional stuff for everyone else, but not going overboard. No one needs it.

Actually chasing three adorable grandchildren will be a workout. So excited! Not to mention the weather should be good, not the typical heat and humidity. Perfect for walking or biking.

PS If you have never been to rural Mississippi, at almost any gas station you can get chicken, potatoes, and pickles all fried together on a stick. Can't say I've tried it. When we lived there and I told my son's girlfriend I had never fried anything, she said, horrified, "Well what do y'all eat?"

sraebaer, Have a wonderful time with the grandkids. We're in NC, and going up to Raleigh to be with two of my daughters; grands are at their dad's this weekend. We also invited my ex and his girlfriend, whom I like. But she cooks like she was raised in Cary, lol.

We're having lasagna & Italian things - I'm making eggface Ricotta Bake for me. Oh, and I always make the pies, but it's no longer about the food -- its seeing everyone.

Christmas will be NOLA style -- etoufee, po boys, YaYa pasta, salad, mufaletta - but I've already figured out the changes I need to make.
    Gotta love the South!

Lol yep you can fry nearly anything (Tennessee born). Have a wonderful time. Thanksgiving has never been my big holiday, but I know it will be hard for some. Enjoy those grandkids

Happy Thanksgiving!! Thank goodness you will be doing the cooking so that it will be a healthy Thanksgiving. I agree, way too much fried food in the South and in the US in general. Since I spent most of my life living overseas it always amazed me to watch US television and see the things they serve at Fairs. Fried twinkies, snickers, butter, oreos.....you name it, they fry it. The butter one really got me. I was like what in the hell??

Turned out great, though after cooking and washing dishes all day long, the meal was sort of anti-climatic. I ate a tiny bit of everything. No room for pumpkin pie, may have to have a tiny piece of that today. The baby, 8 months old, loved the mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes and cranberry sauce. The 7 year old wanted a drumstick, and did a pretty good job at it. Wonderful being with family!

Today if anyone's hungry, we have a fridge full of everything. Grandma is off food duty and back to grandkid duty.
