    Default Newbie from Minnesota

Had surgery last Wednesday ai Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina,MN with Dr. Pierce. Surgery was "textbook" (his words) and I'm feeling really... well I guess really lucky. I had very little pain during my entire hospital stay. The staff there is AWESOME btw. I came home Friday and I was able to finally sleep in peace (on my side which no one thought I'd be comfortable to do), and I woke up yesterday feeling great. We were out and about most of the afternoon and evening walking and I felt great! I have no hunger, lots of energy, no back pain (which was almost constant before). My post-op pain is still minimal and easily controlled with the OxyContin. Am I just super lucky or is this what others have experienced? I read a lot of not so good stories going into this but very few like my own.

Howdy Shannan! I live in St. Cloud but had surgery at the U of M with Dr Leslie in May. Mine was just like yours 'textbook'. I was so pleased with the whole experience! It did take me months to get my stamina back but nothing can stop me now! I also had tons of chronic back pain. It is still there but not nearly as bad as It was! This surgery is a life changer!
115 pounds ago I was always hot! Sweating even during the cold winters here. Now I'm freezing! My hands are so cold now. I got to say I'm loving it because I can always add layers! So with the cold season upon us this winter should be interesting! Hopefully I don't turn to a popsicle!

I was lucky too, absolutely no complications. Actually I thought the entire journey to a regular-sized person was easy. I always disagree with people who say "This is not the easy way out." It sure was for me! I have tried my entire life to lose weight, and the sleeve was the only way I finally lost all my weight and kept it off.

Sounds like you're doing great. You will be thrilled with your results! Keep up that positive attitude.

Congratulations on your Sleeve. Glad your doing well and so far have had a good experience. Other than the first couple hours I’ve done great too. I Never needed to take any narcotics after recovery. It was controlled by a special contail given twice the day we went to the hotel. Then I just took Toradol. I found walking very helpful in improving my pain. By the second I was walking 5-7miles a day. I love my sleeve. It as been an amazing ride. I’m the healthiest and happiest I’ve been in a very long time. I was prepared to make a lifestyle change and so far it hasn’t been hard. I feel truly blessed. I was able to find my passion for life which is Hiking and mountain climbing. It feels amazing to not only achieve those goals but so many others, like running. Never thought I’d ever be able to sprint and be fast, cross my legs, bend and put shoes on with ease, fit in small spaces,so fun to look at group pics and relize your the same size as everyone else. Feels good to be the smaller one in the group, weighing less than my husband. Ok I will stop!! Getting carried away! What a blessing this process has been. What do you think your passion will be or is there something you’d like to do after certain amount of weightloss. Not sure what your stats are. Good luck with your journey.

    Sounds like my experience.

In other words, yours actually IS the textbook experience.

One thing to remember about WLS message boards is that people who have problems tend to post more than people who don't have any problems.

    Congratulations.

I had a breezy recovery, too. My only issues my entire sleeve were constipation and hair loss. Both are no longer an issue. I always felt deliriously happy and was always surprised at how "easy" my recovery was. Happy to hear you are having an easy recovery.

I wish I had a flawless recovery but.....

That being said, I would not change anything I went through because it makes me appreciate the process and the results too.

Yep, I had surgery last Tuesday, went home the next day and have been doing well. Never took the Oxy, just Tylenol the first night and have been feeling better each day. I can sleep a good 10 hours/night now(was a 7 hour girl before) but I think I'm making up for almost no sleep in the hospital.

Have been able to get down my liquids and make my protein quota. Tomorrow I get to move on to pureed foods and I'm so excited!
