    Default Pondering my next step

    Hello all,
I'm considering having gastric surgery soon. I had back surgery 5 months again which included 5 steroid blocks. I now have found myself very overweight. I have truly tried to loose the weight by modifying my food intake with noluck; I have even taken diet pill for the last 2 months. I'm heavier now than I was before the pills. I'm become very depressed and feeling hopeless.

Welcome! This is the perfect place for researching and asking questions. I am thrilled with my sleeve, I've spent almost 4 years being a regular-sized person. Priceless.

VAMatthews63, depression and hopelessness should not ruin your weight loss goals. There are always alternatives. Have confidence that with your proposed gastric sleeve surgery, you can reach your ideal weight.

I know how you feel. It's very discouraging. I feel like I finally have some hope though with this. I have not spoken with one person yet who has regretted this decision which helps put my mind at ease. I am scheduled for my surgery December 6th and I'm nervous but way more excited to finally feel better inside & out. Best of luck on your journey!

Depression sucks. I know that from experience. Just keep researching and don't be afraid to ask questions. I am having my surgery next month and I'm excited about this new journey in my life.

Ask questions, do your research like everyone else said. I can relate with the depression. I wish you well with whatever you decide to do.

Welcome! You have come to the right place for questions and encouragement. If I might ask though, do you think the depression is a result of your back surgery or were you already depressed? I suffer from major depression but am able to function enough to work. Otherwise I don’t do much but really hope that doing this surgery and investing in myself will help me to heal in other ways. I barely look in the mirror now. Really had to convince myself that I was worth the trouble of all of this. So yeah, you are in the right place.

I'm having my sleeve done on 30/11. I suffer depression and arthritis, I've had my back fused and plated

and I've had a full knee replacement. I lay back feeling sorry for myself and gained so much weight.

Its out of control. This is going to be a fantastic journey that I hope you too will join. Jean

I had laminectomy on L5-S1 17 years ago and watched my weight rise over the time post-op. I am now back down to the weight I was pre-injury plus another 10 years. My back feels better than it has in years. If only for that reason, I would do this again and again.
