Default Am I making the right decision

Hi, I am new to the site and am still in the early stages of preparing
for my gastric sleeve op. I hope to have the op early next year and have
made my first appointment to see the surgeon in a few weeks time.
My head is currently going round in circles trying to decide if this is the right
thing to do and if indeed I will achieve the life long weight loss that I hope for.
Does any one have any advice or regrets on having the gastric sleeve?

Not one regret here, except maybe not having it sooner in my lifetime!

I wish I would have done it years earlier!
But you are the only one that can decide for you.
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

Nope. Not one regret.....ok the first week was bad but almost everyone I've talked to that has had this done prepared me for it. That helped a lot so it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be.
Change your relationship with food now. It helped me before surgery and it is helping me now at almost 6 months out. Again this has been my experience. You need to to what is going to help you the most and what you can handle.
This is so much harder than i thought it would be. This for sure isn't the easy way out. It is work. You have to keep working at it.
One of my friends had this done last November. We are the same height but she started 20 pounds heavier than I did. She lost a good amount of weight but she didn't change her relationship with food. She started eating the wrong foods and drinking....a lot. She has stopped losing weight and it looks like she has started to regain.
Just sharing this with you so you know that you can regain by not following the rules and changing your mindset.
For me it has been nothing short of a lifesaver! I was pretty much homebound with chronic back pain and wasn't living. I now am working a very physical job part time and just enjoying life like I thought I never could. For me it was a life changing experience.

Read up. Remember that only you can make this decision if the sleeve is right for YOU. As for ME....I absolutely love my sleeve and only regret waiting to take the plunge. That is it.

All I can say is do a lot of research. I lurked around on this board and others for 6 months before my surgery. Went to seminars, and all the QA sessions with sleeved patients that my surgeon’s office set up.

I’m one month out, and it’s been a little difficult but I certainly would do it over again. Like most here said, I wish I did this years ago!
It’s the first time in my life that I’m easily able to resist food I shouldn’t eat. Just not interested in it anymore. Now plain food, like plain cream of wheat, plain green beans, tastes pretty darn good! Never would have said that before surgery. Everything always had to have butter, cheese, or sugar on it!

Whether you will achieve the life long weightloss you hope for .. only will be decided by you and whether you are ready to commit your self. I have no regrets. What are you worried specifically about ?

I'm 5 days post-op and dealing with minor temporary discomforts. I have absolutely no regrets. My insurance required 6 months of difficult preparation including weight loss, diet classes, support groups, a gazillion tests, quitting smoking and not least of all, completely changing my diet in a household where fat and sugar rule and the matriarch (my MIL) smokes like a chimney, and I had zero support at home. Support is extremely important and you must turn a deaf ear to the naysayers! (Everyone seems to know someone who had a horrible experience or didn't lose weight. This is about YOU.) I nearly quit the program midway through, but then I realized I wanted this MORE than I wanted to eat bad food and smoke cigarettes. I clung to my support groups and they got me through. I'm deliriously happy I made it (although I feel that dieting and quitting smoking at the same time should be illegal). I feel if I could overcome all that, Lord knows anyone can! But please don't be fooled into thinking this is the easy way out. It is NOT. Be prepared for struggles. Do your research and remember, you can start the process and if you determine it's not for you, no one will force you to have the surgery. My advice: you've got nothing to lose except that excess weight so why not give it a try and see where you go? Best of luck on your journey!
