    Red face 6 month - update…

    November 8th, 2017-- 6th month Weigh in-update…
Hi sleeved Family, hope this update finds everyone well!? I just wanted to share that I recently had my 6 month weigh in, (Even tho, its only going to be 5 months on the 15th of Nov.) Scheduling with the surgeon is been off by one month, since surgery. Okay, so since the last time i seen surgeon, 3 months ago. I’ve lost another 59 lbs. 142 lbs. Total since the pre-op diet. I’m doing well, the Dr is very happy with everything except one thing, It seems i’m not eating enough calories. I average 450 or so-- calories most days. She said it simply wasn’t enough that I needed to be closer to 800 calories daily. And said if I continue to just take in very little calories, that i would end up in the hospital with malnutrition. I thought i was supposed to eat 2 ounces. But that's just in protein, I’m supposed to have 2 ounces of protein and 1 ounce of vegetables to go with it. I’ve become so use to 2 ounces, and adding another ounce just seems like a lot to me at the moment. Other than that I’m doing great, she said i’m a rapid weight loss patient. If i keep losing around 20 pounds a month, by the 1 year anniversary i should be half my size. That just makes me feel encouraged, feel like i'm finally going to make it out onto the other side of this storm. Well, It's a daily walk and i’m working on it. 😉
My next appointment with the surgeon & weigh in isn’t for another 6 months, by then i will be at 11 months post-op. So in the meantime, when i get weighed at my primary care doctors office, i will keep you posted on the pounds, that way. It's just the big scale at Kern County’s Bariatric clinic is more accurate than the smaller ones in the drs offices.
That reminds me, I talked to my primary care doctor about joining the gym, she told me No not yet, that i wasn’t ready. She wants me to go through physical therapy to help me with strengthening my body. So I start that soon!
I will share a new photo shortly, in the meantime i'm sending out wishes for everyone to have a blessed November, a very Happy Thanksgiving!

    -Kristy💗💋

Kristy, you really are doing well!

Yes, do eat more. This isn't a race. You'll reach goal, I know you will!

The brilliant nurse practitioner who oversaw my practice post-op really warned me to get up to 1,200 calories/day by 6 months post-op. She said that I'd lose weight a little slower. But eating that much during the losing phase would help my maintenance metabolism to be higher than if I ate very low calorie all the way to goal.

Apparently, that worked for me, because now -- 3 years and 3 months post-op -- I'm able to eat 1750 - 1850 calories on average everyday and not gain any weight at all! I eat tons of protein, veggies, fruits, whole grains and a few daily treats.

Very best to you! You're doing GREAT!

Ann, Have you got a post on how you built up your calories and what you ate. I'm concerned about this because I don't want to end up eating really low calories for too long either. I'm sure the clinic will help with this but what have you got? :-)

Kristy you are amazing!! You are doing so well!! Keep it up. I do agree with your surgeon about getting in enough calories, though. It is so important that we keep our bodies well nourished to prevent malnutrition and sickness. Make sure you are taking all your vitamins. Get in your protein and veggies. You got this. It will be great when you are able to start exercising. Good luck with the physical therapy. Keep us updated!

I cover this pretty well in my three surgiversary posts, I think. See the links below in my sig block.

P.S. For almost 3 months now I’ve been eating 8 veggies and fruits a day. It feels great. And, weird as it may sound, I’ve slowly lost another 4 pounds and now weigh 131. Apparently, it DOES take more energy to digest high-fiber foods.

Yea, i've been working on eating a bit more since i've been home. It takes me a little longer to get that 3rd ounce down. I have to let half of my dinner digest about 20/30 minutes before i finish the rest. I recently tried my first pork steak in 5 months. My brother slow cooked it all day and it was super tender. its one of those small, maybe 2, 2 1/2 ounce steaks. I was able to eat half. then the other half abit later. But i know the surgeon is wanting me to get more protein in, which i get. I've had to add a 3rd snack to my daily food to add bulk up my daily calorie intake. i've been averaging 600/650 calories the last few days. just feels like i'm constantly snacking. every 2-3 hrs. When i seen the dr, she asked about my eating, i told her I was eating about every 3-4 hrs, i guess that was too long between eating, that's the impression i got from her. Anyways, working on it! Thanks for the encouragement! how are things with you?

The doctor told me to increase my calories to 1,000 at 6 months, i'm a little unsure about doing that, i have enough trouble getting 600 calories in daily. its very hard to take in the calories they want us too, then watch the carb intake, there is carbs in just about everything. I'm only allowed 25-40 max daily. but I don't beat myself up if i go over 40. I just absolutely stop at 50. its still working doing that way, i'm still losing. makes me wonder what kind of carbs i was taking in before that, probably more than I ever imagined. Thanks so much for the encouragement, means alot! Hope things are well, your way!?
