    Default Help

    Hello, I’m Debbie62
Had my surgery one week ago today! Having problems
with the post surgery diet. I have read on different sites and people
are claiming that they feel full with 4 oz of protein or fluids. I personally don’t
feel that way. I don’t feel full at all is something wrong? I don’t know if I’m supposed
to asking question on this page.

What are you eating/drinking? I assume you're still on full liquids or purees at 1 week out.

For many sleevers, liquids and purees don't incite the feeling of fullness. For these people, only rigid animal-based protein (read: chicken, pork chops, ground turkey, steak) will make them feel full.

    Good luck to you.

You can ask all the questions you want,we will anwser if we can. I’m sorry i don’t really have any answers. I could only drink a shot glass amount of protein at the beginning so I’m supprised by your question but I know everyone is different, sorry i can’t be more helpful. You might ask your doctor how much of your stomach he removed. Ive heard some doctors don’t remove as much has others. Take care

You will never really feel fullness, or restriction, on liquids. Liquids just pass right through your stomach. Are you hungry? Typically people aren't hungry at your stage.

You will start to feel the fullness/restriction when you start back with real food. Believe me, the first time you try something like a chicken breast, you will know what full feels like, after just a bite or two. You're not eating real food yet, are you? Seems too early for your healing tummy.

So nothing's wrong, and this IS where you ask questions. Good luck!

Just keep following Doctor's orders, it's different for everyone. But once you get on solid food you'll fill up quickly... Hang in there! You got this!

are you on something for stomach acid? If not get some pepscid. Stomach acid mimics hunger. In addition to that is mental hunger at that stage.

Yeah I think that the liquids are not going to make a lot of people have that full feeling although I used to (well I still do preop) get full on liquid. After surgery it doesn't give that full feeling, but just flows on through according to the nurse that spoke in class.

I am like 6 years post op - so these are distant memories for me, but I want to share a few tidbits I learned.

    1. Acid often feels like hunger; many people have lots of excess acid the first weeks/months post op due to smaller stomach and acid production hasn't reduced yet. Are you medicated to reduce acid? If you are and it isn't working, could you speak to doctor about changing it up? For me, acid didn't feel like acid.... it was this strange unsatiated/hunger feeling.
    2. Nerves may have been temporarily damaged during surgery. I was told to not really trust the stomach sensations until about 6 weeks post op. I chose to eat by the clock and scale - meaning, I just followed my plan even if it felt wacky
    3. Liquids are not very satiating. When I transitioned to solids (mine was delayed by a very conservative approach due to my lapband damage/conversion to sleeve). When it was time to start eating more solid foods - it was difficult at times, but that passed

Finally - this is temporary - hang in there - you can do this!!!!
308# 12/1/2011 Start of Preop Diet
300# 12/12/11 Lapband to Sleeve revision
    158# Feb 2013 - GOAL lost 150# 14 months post op
150# 10/14/2013 - Plastics Dr Sauceda in Monterrey Mexico; removed 5.5# of skin
140# Apr 2014 - maintaining 168# weight loss currently. Very happy with my sleeve and plastics results!

Yup. In the beginning you may feel hunger pangs but it may actually be acid reflux. I had that. Once I was taking Pepcid I felt much better. I was also taking a couple of tablespoons of creamed soup made with nonfat milk every hour. It got a lot better when I was able to eat soft foods and even better when I could eat solids. Just breathe and relax. You got this. We all panic when we think something isn't "normal" after surgery. Guess what? No two people are exactly alike and we all go through this our own way. Don't compare. You will be fine. Just take it one day at a time.

Fluids never made me feel full, but definitely sated. Once I started eating pureed food I would get a full feeling. I eat very tiny bites, very slowly to avoid accidentally overeating. A couple times I’ve had one bite too many and gotten pressure/pain behind my breastbone.
