    Default Halloween

I bought 4 bags of Halloween candy to pass out to kids knowing that I didn't get a single trick or treater last year. It's no coincidence that it's all my favorite candy. I also just emptied my bedside trashcan, and it was nothing but protein shake cans and candy wrappers. I did not have a candy problem prior to surgery.

The holidays are challenging for many folks. Temptation is everywhere, not just food-wise but a hard wired need to fit into social situations to feel accepted and normal. As sleevers, we can only eat so much, so making good choices is pretty essential, of course.

This sounds like a bit of a binge, if I am honest. Was that ever an issue for you pre-op? Are you currently seeing a professional therapist? Even just going to group meetings for support can be helpful! We all need help and sometimes a lifeline, there's no shame in that at all. If you are sabotaging yourself, now is definitely the time to stop, rethink, and find help.

Edit: I just remembered something! Atkins brand makes good alternatives to regular candy, if you really need that sweet fix. Also, Halo Top icecream is a protein rich, low fat, low sugar great pick too. Another nice one is fresh cut up strawberries with SF whipped cream. Just thought to add this - trying to be helpful.

Did you have a problem with any other types of food pre-surgery? Sugar is powerful stuff, highly addictive, terrible for you and it's in everything .
It's very hard to go completely, truly sugar free. Even the gummi vitamins have too much sugar in them imo. There isn't really a solution to craving it or to binge-ing on it other than to stop eating it. If only it were as simple to do it as it were to say it, we'd all be better off.

    Hi Katrina,
We bought the candy for the children too but nobody came!!! Luckily we have a 14 year old boy who spent the night saying "they are not coming" and I'm like "keep your paws off, they might!"
Sounds like you're having a tough time recently Katrina. I haven't had my sleeve yet but I was at a psyc appointment the other day and she was talking about the traffic light system. Green is within 2 kilos of your weight... Amber is 3 kilos and you must take some action... red is 5 kilos and it's an alert so you have to make an appointment with the practice. I thought this was pretty good. My practice has everything on site so surgeon, nurse, dietitian, psychologist, all in one building and its a lifelong plan. So you just go back. They also have monthly support meetings and I went to one the other day and it was great.
Do you have something like this that you can go to? Does your practice have any of this stuff?
Sometimes we just need some support eh. People who have been around a while on here seem to have great advice. I hope you're having a fab day kristina and that you get through this hurdle, I'm sure you will :-)
PS... Throw that candy in the bin ;-)

We have hundreds of trick-or-treaters every year. And I can't say I haven't sampled anything... Luckily it's only once a year!

I didn't get any trick or treaters for the second year in a row, but I did get something even better! Some of you know about my daughter. Some don't. She's brain injured after having sleeve gastrectomy and suffering complications. She can't walk along with some other disabilities, and suffers terrible terrible depression. She hasn't been out of bed willingly in months. She is tonight! She even put on makeup. Happy happy mama tonight!

I love the traffic light color system. I have that same concept but my red is 5 lbs. I never color coated it but I know that those are the weights where I need to be cautious/take action.

Totally get the addiction to candy. It is why I try to avoid it because once I start I find it is harder to control myself and I crave it more. And candy is such a slider food you can eat gobs of it and not feel stuffed like you do with solid proteins.

I have had NO candy today, not even a taste. I was well behaved. Protein shake for breakfast, protein shake for lunch, and 4 chick Fil a tenders for dinner. No snacks. No bites of anything else. Only water to drink. It was the same yesterday. After my 4:30 am Twizzler fest, I had protein shake for breakfast. Protein shake for lunch. Fiesta omelet for dinner. When I put my mind to something, I can make it happen. I won't be eating that candy until November 4th.

Yes I really liked it Christie. Also interestingly she asked me to weigh twice a week, I said can I do everyday and she was like sure! So I'm going to do what you do. I really want to keep on top of it :-)
