Today I had my body fat percent tested via hydrostatic testing, also known as water displacement. Basically, you're submerged in water while a technician conducts the test.
My last body fat test was done in October 2016, so I wanted to see if there were any body composition changes a year later.
The bad news...I gained 9 pounds, going from 117.8 to 126.6 pounds.
The good news...I gained absolutely NO BODY FAT! I actually lost 1 pound of fat while gaining 7.9 pounds of lean muscle mass and 2 pounds of water weight.
More good news...even though I gained weight on the scale, my body fat percentage dropped. It was 17.8% in October 2016, but today (October 2017) it is 15.8%.
Better news...my resting metabolic rate increased due to the addition of muscle mass. My RMR is 1565 calories a day. With my activity levels I can eat nearly 2300 calories a day without gaining fat.
My point is that not all weight gain is negative. My clothing still fits the same. I lift heavy weights. Pumping the iron has benefits such as positive body recomposition (more muscle) and increased metabolic rate.
Cheers to everyone who is fighting the battle of the bulge.
