Hello..my name is Teresa and I am starting my liquid diet on the 24th October. My surgery is scheduled for the 14th of November. I'm excited to have it done and I feel blessed for the opportunity. My biggest dread is giving up my diet coke and coffee. I keep trying to tell myself it will be worth it. I look forward to hearing from you and learning from everyone.

    Hi Teresa! Welcome!
I gave up my beloved diet pop addiction last Monday. It's not the easiest thing. I asked the coffee question on this board and most people don't give that up so you may not have to. Food doesn't taste the same without my diet pop but, I had to see if I have what it takes so I'm living the lifestyle early. I definitely feel your pain. WE CAN DO THIS!!! We really can! Just think of what we are getting in return, our lives back! Eyes on the prize at all times. When do you start the pre-op liver shrink diet? I'm thinking of starting a little early....

You can do this! I was lucky in that I did not have to do any extreme pre-surgery diet. Only 24 hours before surgery. My Dr. felt that is was not necessary since my liver functions were normal prior to surgery.

I quit all caffeine post surgery. It is a diuretic and just takes away from the water you're drinking. I enjoy decaf coffee now!

Good luck with your surgery! You won't regret it.

Ok ladies...here is what I have to say about the diet soda. It's only been 5 days for me so I'm not out of the woods yet but, There are some very yummy low cal, non carbonated drinks out there. I haven't found a favorite yet but I keep trying new ones. Make it your first "project". I am. I need to find my favorite diet pop replacement. Let's compare notes and come up with a good one. So far, the actual habit of taking it out of the fridge and the constant slight headache is the bad part. On the upside- water becomes your friend. I do miss my "bestie" diet pop but it's necessary so WE CAN DO THIS! on repeat!

I used to drink Diet Dr Pepper like a mad woman. Gave it up due to the carbonation and that the NUT said it is totally bad for you. I never gave up my coffee. I drink one 20 oz nonfat latte a day with 2 Splenda. I did try the Diet Dr Pepper a few months post op and found it to taste completely disgusting. I don't know how I ever drank that crap. It actually made me want to wretch. So I do not miss it now. Love my coffee, but I have seen some people say they didn't like coffee post op. My love for coffee never changed. I use Fa!rlife nonfat milk in my coffee. It has more protein, less sugar, and is lactose free.
