    Default Failure?

I am really feeling like I am failing at this surgery right now. I lost 20 pounds pretty quickly in the first two weeks after surgery. Then I hit the dreaded 3 week stall. Well I am now in my fifth week and still no more weight loss. Did anyone else stall and for how long? I am still struggling in getting in all my protein and fluids, does that have anything to do with the stall? I can't drink protein shakes, they make me sick with horrible stomach cramps and diarrhea. I have bee relying solely on soft foods for my protein intake which is hard when I can only eat a quarter cup at a time. The fluids are a non stop struggle with not drinking and eating at the same time and waiting a half hour before and after a meal. I am really frustrated now and beginning to feel like I am going to be one of those people that the surgery won't work for. I'll admit I am not really consistent with exercise, my energy levels are still kind of low and my fibromyalgia pain is worse now than it has been in a while. I know I need to exercise more, the depression I have been feeling too has made me lose a lot of motivation. I am ready to give up.

Don't give up. Keep working the plan. Try to get some help from a therapy standpoint especially when dealing with depression. Try to find a support group that you can go to and talk to people. There are plenty of people who are having or have had the same issues as you.

Keep trying, there really isn't any other alternative?

Good luck. Will be thinking of you and will say a prayer that things will start working and get better for you.

Lack of protein will result in long, hard stalls that are difficult to bust. You need to do whatever it takes to strive for 80+ grams of protein per day and 60+ ounces of water. Water is needed to metabolize the stored fat you hope to burn off.

I thought the sleeve wouldn't work for me, either. Take a look at my monthly losses in the signature block below my post and you'll notice the vast majority are single digit (1 to 7 pounds a month).

What matters is I eventually reached my goal weight after 17 months and have remained there for more than a year.

Good luck to you. You've got this.

Don't panic same thing happened to me. i lost about 20 pound in first 2 weeks after my surgery but than i stalled for at least 25 days or may be more. But i started losing again. so keep it up. Like others have advised
    1) increase water intake 2) Increase protein intake 3) increase activity level.
It is a struggle but you will get through it. I don't like protein shakes either. To increase my protein intake i eat boiled lean minced beef or lamb and soft scrambled eggs.

Have you tried making your own shakes. I did protein powder with unsweetened vanilla almond milk. You control what goes in and you can modify to your needs and likes.

First of all, a positive attitude will take you far. Please stop talking about failing and that you "can't" do this or that. You can, you just have to figure out what works for you. Start by being excited about losing 20 pounds! That is a lot of weight! I know I didn't lost 20 pounds my first two weeks. (If it is depression, please see a doctor.)

At week 5 you should be able to try pretty much anything, I know I was cleared for all foods at 6 weeks. Concentrate on getting in your protein and liquids. If a protein shake makes you sick, try another one, there are tons of them out there, creamy, clear, whatever. Try new soft foods like eggs, low fat cheese, low fat greek yogurt, tuna (on the go I love those little Bumblebee fat-free tuna salad kids with wheat crackers, they come in a green box.) Any fish like salmon, snapper, trout, etc. will be so much easier on your tummy right now than meat like chicken, pork, or steak. (I couldn't eat chicken for a long time!!) You can do this, it's fun! And while you're working on finding foods you like, toss that scale. Seriously. Put it away for a few months, it's messing with your head.

Then there's exercise. Just got back from a walk in the woods and it was incredibly beautiful! Sunny, a little cooler, fall colors starting, amazing. Today is PERFECT! I always suggest starting with walking because all you need is a good pair of shoes. Start short distances and work your way up slowly. You may become addicted like me. Of maybe there's something else you enjoy doing like biking, dancing, the gym, whatever. Just find something you like and do it.

I too am dealing with some constant pain from a broken neck, but I know it will just take time to heal, so I just suck it up. Talk to your doctor about your increased fibromyalgia pain, maybe there's something that can help.

When you get into your eating and exercise routine, it becomes a habit. It turns into fun rather than work. Best of luck to you!

All really great shares! I'm only at 11days,
but first, walking & moving around (even walking in place if you can't go out, or chair walk). Exercise relieves depression.

Please know that should you feel depressed too long, your body starts secreting hormones that make it last longer. Disclose to your Dr., a close friend, pastor.

Also let doc know you may have milk/ whey allergy where the protein makes you sick. There are plant alternatives, like soy. (Women who have HER2pos breast cancer history, shouldn't take it).

    Prayers for resolution and success!

Try Fa!rlife milk (13 g protein per serving and also counts as fluids!!), Oikos Triple Zero Greek Yogurt (15 g), fish, beans (especially Navy), eggs, chicken/tuna/egg salad, cottage cheese. All have a lot of protein. Just keep following the program. It will work. Just trust in it and try to breathe. The stall will pass.

You are really being very hard on yourself. My goodness, you are only 5 weeks out. At 5 weeks out I was not too worried about anything other than trying to eat something, anything. Protein was always on my mind, but I rarely made that 60 gram mark. My main goal was drinking enough not to dehydrate. I found hot plain tea was the easiest thing to drink. I also relied on soup quite a bit. My protein numbers went up between 8 and 12 weeks. I hated the protein shakes, but did the best I could. I found greek yogurt, string cheese and peanut butter were the most tolerable. My amazing husband found recipes that he cooked for me.
I now drink a dairy based protein shake, found in the dairy section, that is wonderful. Even though at 5 weeks I don't think my stomach could have tolerated it. Be kind to yourself and really try to do the small meals several times a day. I still love the high Protein cheerios (oat and honey). Walk for exercise at this point. Your new tummy is still healing. Hope this helps.
