Default Almost 7 months out... 101 pounds down.

I'm holding at 101 pounds gone and loving it. And (drum roll...) I have signed up for my very first 5K marathon in January. It's called Happy Hour Marathon-- and should be fun!!

I haven't ran, jogged or anything remotely close to that since 1988. I have been walking daily since surgery last March and the other night when I was walking with my daughter I asked her "I wonder If I could run? I don't even know HOW to take off." Not so much because I had forgotten how to run, but I am petrified because my left foot is stiff as a board. I detached my Achilles tendon in 2015, had surgery and a horrible recovery (being BIG didn't help at all during that process) and have issues with the left foot begin too darn tight. The achor is screwed into a bone in my heel and it's snug. But it is secure, I had an MRI last year to check.) So, after I asked my question, I said "What the heck do I have to lose? If I keel over, our house is right there." I took off and I did it. I ran a little, walked a little and kept at it. I have been doing it ever since and I have signed up for the marathon with my Zumba crew, so I won't be alone! I found a site online that tells you HOW to prepare- and I am doing it.

This surgery has changed my life in SO many ways. I have more energy, not the fattest gal in the room, wear smaller clothing and I just feel GOOD! I am ONE pound away from being in the NORMAL range (BMI). It's a mental thing, I know, but I want to be there. With all the jogging I have been doing the last 4 days, and my Zumba dancing 4 days a week, I will be there very soon.

When I decided on the surgery last December, my plan was that I didn't want to be a blimp when I turn 60 next month, and my goal has been met and passed on by. Just wanted to share my joy!

I am super impressed Lori. I had the same thoughts as you but my arthritic knee decided that it hates running. It is an eventual replacement but until then I have to manage it. I think I would like running but for now I will stick with Weightlifting, Spin Class and the elliptical. If I can find a pilates class that fits my schedule I will start that back up.

Just put your mind to it and you will do well. I was able to finish a half marathon at just under 320lbs. But further damaged my already damaged knees. Don't give and power through each workout knowing what is on the other side. A super emotional day full of extreme pride in where you are and where you came from. You are already a champ.

Lori, this is so wonderful! And when I noticed your age (I'm 65) I thought, if she can, I can, because 6 years is not that much difference. My goal is being able to go for a month to Spain. And walk and walk and walk. We have family/friends there and my husband has been so many times. So weight loss, better health, and OOH, did I mention I'm afraid to fly?

Your meeting goals is inspiring! Yes we can!

My husband was ready for the knee surgery and found that the weight bearing exercise made so much difference; he does prudently wear a brace for ladders, etc.

If your bottom hurts, move the seat forward. It will have you resting in a different place that is easier to take. I used to have that problem quite a bit. Once I found the magic setup for the bike, the comfort changed quite a bit. Not that there is none but it is better than not walking for two days because I jogged.

Either way, the key is to find what you like and do it until you find your next thing. Moving is the key.

Yes. C25K is awesome. I used the free Zenlabs one. Congrats on signing up. I caution you...running can be addicting. All in a good way, though. I absolutely love races...especially when you have friends to run them with you. So many fun ones out there. I especially like the obstacle ones. Way to go Lori!
