New to group - low blood pressure

Hi,
I had surgery 9/28/17. Down 25lbs so far. I've always been on blood pressure medication. Exactly 2 weeks after surgery my blood pressure started dropping too low. Making me light headed, dizzy and a tad nauseous. I had been feeling so good. Energy level increasing daily. And then the blood pressure issue. Went to my primary and he told me to cut my BP meds by half. If I get up and do anything my pressure drops. I'm hoping my body will get this figured out soon. Anyone else have these issues? Thanks!

My BP has always been fine (not high, not low), and I also had those same "orthostatic" BP issues post-op. Went away though.

I had this issue for about a year. My doctor pushed me to focus on eating more and drinking tons. It will get better slowly. I did a lot of research that helped me.

You may be one of the blessed people who get to come off their BP meds entirely. I was on BP meds and it took a while to half my dose and I actually just got off mine completely in September even though I had been at a "normal" BMI range for quite a while. Many on this forum get to be taken off completely very quickly. You may just be one of those. And if your blood pressure is dropping that low your PCP may need to completely stop your meds versus just cutting the dose in half.

What you describe is exactly what I experienced. Within 10 days of surgery I was experiencing extremely low BP. It started on a Thursday (I think) and by Saturday I could not get up without almost passing out. I used to be an EMT and knew exactly what it was, I was also checking my BP regularly. I just stopped taking the 10mg of BP meds I had been taking and called my Dr. on Monday morning. He had me come in that day and confirmed my diagnosis. He agreed to have me stop with the BP meds and monitor my numbers. If they started rising above 135/95 then I should take 1/2 a BP pill.

They have not risen above the 135/95 numbers. Actually they are quite low 105/65 is a regular number I see. I am completely off BP meds now and am loving life.

I wasn't happy with my primary's advice. I'm monitoring my blood pressure off and on all day. Actually taking a 1/4 of a dose which is very small. My numbers are coming up a bit. And I'm feeling a lot better. So I'll keep up what I'm doing. The lowest it got to was 82/55. My body is use to 125/82 with medication. So hopefully my body is adjusting. Thank you for all your imput.

I had immediately after surgery for two reasons, lack of protein and the BP meds I was on needed adjusting. I upped my protein intake and dropped the meds lower and eventually completely.
