    Default Newbie here

So, I am having gastric sleeve surgery next week. I’m excited and nervous all at the same time. I’m on my pre-op liver diet and not doing so great. It’s so hard! It’s literally a starvation diet. Anyway, any words of wisdom you can give on the surgery would mean a lot to me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a bunch!

The surgery's sort of the easy part -- you don't have to do anything; the docs/medicos do it all.

If you'd like to read about one woman's WLS journey, read my surgiversary links in my signature block below. Again, this was just my experience. Lots of other experiences here to learn about. There are newbies here, and people who are 2-3-5-7, even 8 years post-op. Everybody's input is helpful.

The basic rules I assume you already know about apply -- protein early on, add low-starch veggies, then fruits, then whole grains. The first 6-8-12 months are a "honeymoon period," during which you'll lose weight faster than you ever will again. Losing weight fast isn't the important thing -- but learning how to change your lifestyle permanently (through healthy foods, daily exercise, and much better self-care) is important, because that's what'll help you keep the weight off long-term.

Some people find therapy useful. I certainly have. You may find it helpful, too.

I would suggest you focus like a laser on your reasons for having WLS -- what are your goals, your dreams, the life you want to live instead of the one you've been living recently?

Stay connected here. You'll keep learning and find inspiration, support, and even friendships.

    Welcome. Best wishes.

As you struggle through the pre op, keep your eye on the prize. The purpose of the liver shrinking diet is to minimize chances of complications and the liver getting in the way of the procedure. Once you get the surgery, it gets soooo much easier since you will have this tiny, new stomach. You still have to follow the rules but it is a lot easier to do. And it is absolutely worth it. You CAN do this! You are almost there! Good luck!

Welcome Krissy. get ready for an amazing ride.

Advise, take your worst pictures ever in the next six days. you will use them for motivation and pride in how much you have changed. Also take measurements pre-surgery, when you hit plateaus you will see your measurements change when the scale is not. Is a great tool to keep for the tougher times ahead.
