Default Only getting one protein drink in right now

Hi there! I was sleeved 7 days ago tomorrow! I've only been able to get 40 g of protein shake (my morning shake) in a day right now. I know I need to get the second one in at night, but after the greek yogurt, chicken broth and all the water I've been drinking 64 oz a day; I am too full at night and am very tired by night time. So I haven't been able to get my protein shake in. My goal is by next week, mid week, to take in the second 40 g of protein shake in the evening. Is this normal so early in the game?

It is very hard to get in your protein and water requirements in the beginning. Just do your best and don't stress. Are you eating the Oikos Triple Zero Greek yogurt? That has 15 g protein if I am not mistaken. That puts you at 55 g right now which is respectable.

You're doing great! Yes, early on it's hard to get in all the volume of liquids and all the protein. But as your sleeve heals (and that's its main job right now) you'll be able to do better. That sip-sip-sipping thing is the only way you can begin to approach your goal right now. In a few weeks swallowing will be easier, your capacity will have expanded a little, and you'll be much more comfortable.

And yes, being tired at this point is very common. But hydration plays a big point in that, too, since dehydration is exhausting.

This is a temporary phase. It'll get better soon.

I agree you are doing great. I am 3 weeks out and thought it would be impossible my first week to get everything in. I was like OMG this is my new full time job - but like Ann and Christie said it gets sooo much easier. I switched up my shakes for IsoPure waters at first since they weren't as heavy (they are 40g of protein for 20oz of fluid) and have since started to switch back to my shakes since I am able to swallow fluids more easily. It is hard but just be patient it's not the end of the world if you don't hit your protein goal right out of the gate.

Thanks for your responses! Yes, I never thought of counting the protein I'm getting from the yogurt so I guess I'm not doing as bad as I thought! My surgeon also suggested adding some protein powder and mixing it into the yogurt. I'm doing that now, so I get a boost of an extra 10 g of protein from the powder in my yogurt so right now I guess I am at about 65 g per day. Working my way up there! Thanks again for the responses!!

Well your protein shake counts toward your liquid too. So like one bottle of Isopure is 20 ounces liquid and 30 grams protein. (Not sure if that's correct, as it's been so long.).= It's important to meet both your protein and liquid minimums. Try sipping all day long. (The first two weeks basically all I had were shakes and water.)

I struggled getting my protein in for most of the first three months. But my doc wanted me at 110g per day. It just took a while until I could consume the amount. Your stomach is still very likely swollen and angry still. As the swelling goes down your protein intake will go up. Just do the best you can because the protein will give you the energy you are missing at the end of the day.
