Help! Trouble taking antibiotics

I'm four days out from surgery and sailed through the first few days fairly easily. Now that I'm off the IV and have to take meds orally, I'm struggling.

My first oral dose of antibiotics took me four hours to choke down! I managed to cut down that time to a little over two hours last night, but the medicine burns all the way down and is making me sick to my stomach to the point where I can't even drink. At this point, I'm more concerned about dehydration than infection. The wounds look great and I feel fantastic ... when I'm not puking up cipro. I have found that NOT taking a "chaser" sip of something else to cleanse the palate is better -- but only in the same sense that a bullet through the liver is better than a bullet through the heart.

Anyone else experiencing this problem? What are you doing about it?

I first took malox, it helps coat stomach and prevent stomach upset. I mixed mine with cranmango juice. It did a descent job making the taste bearable. Important you finish the antibotics. If you continue to have a problem you may need to get a different one. Don’t recommend stopping and not taking something. I hope the malox helps you. The Maalox helps but my doc has recommended putting a couple hours between antacids and antibiotics because they tend not to play well with each other. I'm not sure how well I'm "coated" by the time I start my cipro. Grape Propel masks the flavor as well as can be expected, but not the burning. It's awful ... That cran-mango sounds amazing, though! I love mangos.

Aside from that, I'm feeling pretty good. At the moment, I'm sipping liquids, and I can already tell that I can tolerate slightly larger sips. (Yesterday, pea-sized sips were gurgling for a full minute or two before I could sip again.) No pain, and my doggies are giving me LOTS of healing kisses!

I did not have to take antibiotics. I hope you find something that makes it bearable. How many more days do you have to take them??
