Hello, I知 scheduled for gastric sleeve surgery on October 17th. I知 starting to get nervous!
Anyone care to share their advice?
The first week is the hardest but it gets a bit easier every day. You will only be able to sip a tablespoon or two at a time. Don't be alarmed if you can't hit your protein/fluid goals week one. Just do your best. You will need to sip all day long. Set a timer to remind yourself if you need to. Also, walk as much as you can tolerate week 1 to help expel the gas from surgery. Take progress pictures now in something as form fitting as possible like a bathing suit or your undergarments. Also take measurements. Waist, hips, chest, thigh, calf, bicep. Then continue to take measurements/pictures every 2 weeks. When it seems your weight has stalled, you will notice you are still getting smaller and losing inches. And relax and enjoy the ride. You will stall sometime in the first few weeks, most likely, as it happens to most sleevers. It will pass and it is not an indicator that your surgery has failed. Follow your nutritionists guidelines. Remember that protein/fluids are your number one priority and will be for the foreseeable future. Eventually veggies will be added into that equation. Good luck!
Hi,
Welcome to the group. I know exactly how you're feeling. I am 5 days post op. I was extremely nervous the week before, kept second guessing my decision. I knew changes needed to be made. So here I am beginning my new life one step at a time. I really appreciated joining this group as everyone here is very supportive. You don't have to be afraid to ask anything. They all were in our shoes at one time. Nervous is normal. Good Luck

welcome I just had my sleeve on the 27th of Sept. So far minus the common cold my surgery went well. i was always expecting something someone to tell me psych you did not or can not have it but I did and it was a success. two weeks before i started my liquid eating just the protein shakes from primer and two yogurts dannon light fit under 100 cal. just two days before i went to liquid clear broth i am unsure if stock was ok to have compared to broth but i did find it tastier lol. however once i was out of the hospital i was hungry wanting to eat normal or something other then clear or just liquids but i know i have to stay strong so i am on the isotop (cant spell today its from gnc ) protein clear fluid and taking about oz or two each time so it takes a while to drink it all or your stomach says ok put it down im done for now and you have to listen to it. i have not thrown up which is good but i have had runs a few times still .. now like you need to know but i think it has to do w/ also my lack of hard food and lack of gall bladder . you will be fine and if you need to know anything we are all here for you as well as others for us. welcome to the gastric sleeve site
I had my surgery 5 months ago. BEST decision I ever made.
THe first week, you will be super tired, weak, and a bit sore. and your stomach is going to be uncomfortable. Not terrible - but you'll have some unusual feelings (like, you may not know if it's acid reflux, hunger, or a regular stomach ache). It goes away. Taking nexium helps and they come in tiny pills now too.
You'll have very little appetite. That's ok. it comes back a little, but make sure you drink water. You won't be able to get 64 oz at first - it's ok... just try.
walking is important in the beginning - it will help you recover from the surgery in lots of ways (to get rid of the gas and also to rid your body of the anesthesia).
have patience... you'll feel better soon.
5 months out and I'm super happy. I can't eat much or fast, but I needed that. I get full SO quickly - it's awesome. I'm also down 70lbs.

C75C57BD-40BF-4DAD-AB95-4E6DA95627A9.jpegSome recommendations are, make sure you walk as soon has you are awake from surgery. I took two laps around our floor every couple hours.Walking will help ruce pain. Sugery easier than I thought it would be. Next day youll start on ice chips than eventually clear liq. make sure to sip frequently, stay hydrated. Ask for a refrigerator when you get to the hotel if you want to keep clear liquids cold or if your on any meds that need refrigeration. T aso has a litle freezer for extra popsicles they give you. Heating pad felt good next day. Rooms in back are more quite thn rooms in front. Bring medical records if you have any heart problems. I have CHF and my doctor forgot to send my echo. I had to call and jump hoops to get it to Dr Almanza’s team. A bit stressful. Try to relax. Your going to be in good hands. Area around hotel and hospital safe and nice. We walk all around before and after surgery. Day 2 postop our driver took a group shopping. We had fun. So excited for you.
Thank you very much. It did take a lot of hard work. When I was in your shoes I was scared, anxious but motivated. Try to put failures out of your mind!!! This is a new start and something completely different,If you can make the changes they recommend and follow your post-op diet. You’ll do great. it will easier than you think. Start walking if you haven’t. You’ll be able to get exercise that way until you can do other things. When I started I could barely walk a flight of stairs. Now I go on 11 to 20mile hikes with 2,000ft to 3,000ft elevation gains. After surgery work to retrain your brain. I did lots of self talk. In time you will train your brain to give you more accurate hunger messages. after surgery you will have a feeing of being hungry and have growling, its from stomach inflammation. After you finish med Dr Almanza gives you try nexium or prevacid twice a day or this. Your going to do great, unleash your passion thats been traped all this time. After you heal find a way to be active. You will be tired at first but then you will have more energy than you know what to do with
