    Default Plateau...

I had my gastric sleeve surgery 6 April 2017 and have lost 96lbs since then. According to my dietician this is 70% of my excess weight, she even went on to say my wight loss had been exceptional and what she would expect to see from a gastric bypass patient.

I recall my surgeon saying that the gastric sleeve could assist in removing upto 70% of my excess weight.

I weigh myself every week (1st thing in the morning) and it has plateaued over the last three weeks......

I don’t drink alcohol anymore (can’t believe I don’t miss it) but haven’t commenced any form of regular exercise yet. I did to to the gym when I was around 7-8 weeks post surgery but was absolutely drained of all energy afterwards (knackered as we say over here!).

    Any suggestions?

    Many thanks

working out or getting some cardio excercise is the best way to break a plateu. You will feel drained and tired for about the first week or two after starting excercise programs. My mother broke her Plateu by going vegan for 6 months.

Long term, exercise will keep your weight off. It raises your metabolism as a whole and burn a few calories more per day. Each pound of muscle will burn between 7-14 calories per day where as fat only burns 1.4 calories per day. So the higher muscle content you have the better your body will absorb calories.

Find an exercise you like. I'm not a gym person, I much prefer being outdoors. Walking is the easiest way to start, all you need is a good pair of shoes. Start out small and work up your distance over time. Or maybe you'd rather ride a bike, mow your lawn, go dancing, whatever! We're all different, but it is important to start adding exercise to your new lifestyle. Good luck!

Sometimes when I plateaued I actually need to up my caloric intake, as odd as that sounds. Also, add some exercise. Eventually all stalls pass. Just be patient and relax.

BTW, those surgeons' estimates of "how much will you lose?" is really just the average of what all VSG patients lose. A lot of us here have lost 100% of our excess weight and continue to maintain all that loss for years.

What you achieve is TOTALLY up to your own efforts. My personal opinion based on my personal experience.

Best wishes to you! And welcome.

If you are able find a pool get in the water and just walk. I hate exercise, but the pool has been my saving grace. I try to go 2 to 3 time a week. Walk , aqua-size, in the water is fun and a good work out.

You already have gotten some good advice. I will add for long term success you really need to live an active lifestyle. Exercise longterm will give you more energy than less. Don’t give up! Unleash your passion. Push yourself it’s so worth it. I’ve lost 127lbs in 9mos. When I first started I could barely climb a flight of stairs or walk a block. At first I was so tired now I have so much energy it’s amazing. I love too all the muscles I’m developing. Make sure too your getting in all your protein daily. Best of luck to you.

My dr & I just had a conversation about this yesterday. He really feels everyone's journey and things you think break a plateau are not the same for everyone. I was talking about how I notice a pattern in my lose, plateau, then lose again and he said that's pretty much part of my journey and not necessarily the same for everyone. He said go by your non scale victories when the scale doesn't seem to move.

You are doing terrific! Just continue with what you're doing and add some exercise!

    Wow, 96lbs in 6/7months!!
Good for you! I'd say it's time to shake things up. It's all about the calories coming in and the calories burning off. Exercising 8 weeks post op would have drained me too, but now your fully healed and 96lbs lighter.
I don't think your done losing yet.
When I stalled I ate some crap and didn't exercise for a few days and then went back to not eating crap and exercising, it was like a jump start for me.
