Default Two Months out: Appetite comes and goes

I had gastric sleeve surgery exactly two months ago. I am doing well, about 37 pounds down. For all of you who have it and wonder about the one month or 6 week stall. It is real, just keep pushing forward and drink your water! It might be water weight.

The one thing I have noticed is how my hunger comes and goes. At my one month mark I was starting to get worried because my appetite came back with a vengeance. However, something happened a week ago. My appetite has subsided, even on an empty stomach. Where I was once eating close to 1200 calories, now I can barely get to 900 on a good day. Did I do a pouch reset without knowing it? I have no idea.

Is this normal? I hope it stays like this.

Mine still comes and goes. I think a lot of initial hunger is the acid, though, and it can be confusing.

I was told by many that my feelings of hunger were just acid in my gut. I tried EVERY anti gas, antacid, and PPI, and nothing worked. I was only two months out, so how could I possibly have hunger? Well, it WAS hunger, and I'm still having it five months out. I read that in some people, the hunger can come back, because your brain can take over the production of grehlin. Great! I would be one of those folks. But at least I'm learning to really listen to my body now. When I'm hungry, I eat. When I'm not hungry, I don't eat now. I have 3 meals, and usually 2 snacks each day, always protein first. Despite the hunger, I'm doing okay, and I'm losing (after a 3 week stall, eating too many carbs). I only eat 20 carbs a day, and 90 to 100 grams of protein. I find that this type of food plan helps with hunger, also.

If it really Is hunger, then you can learn to deal with it. Your sleeve won't let you overeat, just make sure you're eating the right things and being healthy.

    Take care,
    Patti

I agree that it comes and goes. I'm 8 months out and I have days where I could care less if I eat and days where I could anything and everything in sight. Water intake plays a huge role in it for me, I try to get 100+ ounces everyday. On days where I am way under on my water, I'm hungry otherwise I'm not. Mental hunger is an entirely different problem though. I have days where I mentally have the work hard not to eat when it is not time.
