    Default Thoughts before surgery

So, my surgery is scheduled for September 28,2017. I'm currently on my newly revamped pre-surgery diet. Partly protein shake and partly one lean and green meal for dinner. As I watch my family eat their fulfilling meals I drink my protein shake and can't help but say to myself "can I do this?" My will power is not great but I'm doing it mainly because I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome which is debilitating and effects all my joints.

Trust me you won't want to eat after surgery! I'm 4 month out and still dont want to eat sometimes. Food smells good but I don't want it. If you can hold out now before surgery you can do it after as well! You got this!!

I was cooking my husband his normal food 3 days after surgery and still do and not even temped. We are talking mashed potatoes with gravy, fried chicken, pastas ya know all the good foods. I make his meals and I make my chicken. I know I will have to be careful of the slider foods (breads are my kryptonite) in the future. As long as I'm aware of what they are I can handle it. I absolutely refuse to go back to the old me.

Thank you so much, so many emotions are running coming at once. I all I want is to be healthy for my family. One particular individual had said to me " you're taking the easy way out", all I could say to her was this is not an easy route this route is one of the hardest to take. It's a life style change which, I will have make sacrifices.

Before having surgery make sure you can make the changes necessary for long term success. How much weight do you need to loose? Also you need to be active find exercise you can do everyday. Find were your passions are. Learn to use food for fuel or nourishment not out of boredom or entertainment. Feeling good and being healthy is the goal. If you are having a hard time I would recommend counseling and find a support group in your area. I had counseling for two years before surgery and attended group after. It really helped me to figure out why i was sabotaging myself and why I over ate annd became so overweight. I found success and happiness away from food. I found my passion which is hiking and climbing mountains. All the best to you. I’m happy to answer any questions

This for sure isn't the easy way out. Long ago I used to think so too until I did my research and understood the facts. I still have friends that think way. Just be careful of who you tell. All you have to do is that you are changing the way you eat. That is the truth! It may save you some heartache in the end.

You can do this! Once you are sleeved you won't be able to eat very much and you will have the time to start readjusting the way you eat.

It is so much easier AFTER surgery. I did well on my 9 days of pre op but mine was similar to yours. I did have 3 days of liquids only right before surgery, though. I made it through. Making good choices post op was much easier. Now I am in maintenance and I still don't have any issues making good choices. I am a weigh myself daily, though. Every morning and night. It helps me adjust my eating accordingly. I will NEVER go back to where I was. Today I could get both my legs into one leg of my old jeans. I break those bad boys out every few weeks to remind myself of what I do not want to go back to. I kept one pair of jeans just for that.

I have Ehlers Danlos, too, and just began researching weight loss surgery. My first appointment is November 27th. How much did you have to explain to the doctors about EDS and have you had to get any specialists involved? Good luck my fellow Zebra!
