    Default Pain Subsiding

    Hello all,

I wanted to introduce myself as I am looking forward to communicating and connecting with you. My name is Darryl and I just had the gastric sleeve surgery 10 days ago. I must admit it was not how I thought it was going to be but I can be a big baby when it comes to pain :-) My docyor required I stay in the hospital for three day and I didn't think that was long enough at the time. My wife was there with me all the way and she was a Godsend. She made me walk and tried to get me to wean myself off of the pain medication. Well, I am glad she did. After several days of intense (to me) pain, it is starting to subside.

I am not back in the office yet but am working from home for the time being. This will allow me to heal quicker as my comute is long and I don't want to be caught on the freeway if I start feeling sick.

Ok, enough whining. This was a big decision for me and I am feeling successful so far. I am down 15 lbs in 10 days. I don't know if I will continue to lose t that pace but zi am following the nutritionists guidelines pretty strickly.

I would appreciate any tips and encouragement you can muster and I will do the same.

    Happy and safe melting,
    Darryl

    Hi Daryl,
Congratulations on your surgery! Just follow the guidelines outlined by your nutritionist and listen to your body. You now have a built in portion control which you will start feeling once you get to solids. Listen to it! You will do fine! Welcome to the sleeved side!

congratulations on your Sleeve and your success so far. Right know my advice is to make sure your walking frequently and start week two adding length or time to your walking. Sip water or non caloric beverages frequently and follow your post op diet as given however its ok to extend length of any stage if tummy not ready. You will feel much better soon. if your still having pain a heating pad can help. Make sure your taking an anti acid twice a day this helps with inflammation in your stomach which mimics hunger pains and tummy growling, lol Happy to answer any questions. Good luck

You'll do GREAT! It really is an amazing tool. My best advice for newbies is to stay off your scale for at least a month, it messes with your head. I remember crying to my nutritionist about how I was eating practically nothing and not losing weight in the beginning. Now I realize that happens to most all of us, makes no sense, but it happens. Enjoy the journey, it was so much fun! Keep that positive attitude too, that will be a huge help.

Thanks for the advice on the anti acids. I agree they do simulate hunger pains lol. I thought I had done something wrong when my tummy started to growl. I wasn't aware it helped with the inflammation so I will make sure i take them as prescribed. So far so good!

Your very welcome. Happy to answer questions anytime. It is so strange having your stomach growl like its hunger. That lasted for a good 2mos than eventually stops. keep up the good work Brace yourself for an exciting ride.

Welcome Darryl, Don't worry about not reacting how others did. I personally was in pretty good pain for almost a month. I had a nerve that was clipped during surgery. I lived with a throw pillow as a constant companion for most of the first month. Let your wife be your caretaker, at least for a while. Enjoy the journey it is quick and full of big changes.
