Red face An odd subject and post, but whatever..... New running shoes!

Just bought a new pair of running shoes and wanted to let people know that these are the best, most comfortable, softest shoes I have ever owned. If you are getting into running, walking, or anything on your feet, check them out. They weren't cheep ($150) but they were worth every penny.

I had been training hard for an upcoming race (1/2 marathon) and my knees were starting to give me problems, really bad outside knee pain that became debilitating at about 4 miles. I was seriously down about it, because running has definitely been my replacement for eating (stress eater here). I cut my miles significantly but decided that I might need new shoes since the pair I had been wearing had around 400 miles on them.

Got the new ones, and went out for a 6 mile run..... 100% PAIN FREE!!!!!! Will be running 10 miles Saturday.......

I'm thinking I can get back up to my training mileage and pull off my 1/2 marathon in 3 weeks!!!!

Hoka One One Bondi 5 are the shoes. Check them out if your needing some love for your feet.

That is amazing!!! Like many people I am sure... all my shoes are now too big and I need to replace. I had to get through a few weddings, etc. in my life and then I am hitting the pavement again. Can't wait!!! You are so inspiring. Thank you much for the shoe tip xo

Awesome Glenn....just bought some Brooks and love them, but I will definitely look at these Hokas. I'm around 60 miles a week so shoes don't last me long. Thanks for the hot tip and I'll let you know how they perform. Good luck in your 1/2 marathon endeavor...they are usually fun runs to do...Al

I've been a New Balance and Brooks guy forever. These shoes are more comfortable. The store I bought them at (Fleet Feet Sports) let me take them for a quick run before I got them. Actually I took 4 different pairs for a quick run before I made the decision! It wasn't easy to buy a different brand but I am glad I did.

Would these be good for just fast walking too do you think? or are they basically just running shoes?

I buy my shoes at Super Jock N Jill and they also let you test run in shoes before you buy them. They watch your gait, pronation and stride. Never seen these before bro, but I'm always up for new choices! I'll keep ya posted....

NYC...I walk a ton in my running shoes. I'm actually probably 60/40 running to walking a week. Saves my knees from the pounding....yet I still have a high level of cardio benefits from my power walking. Go to a good qualified running store and you'll get hooked up. When they give you feedback on how you walk or run...then you can buy shoes online based on that feedback ie: "heel-striker who over-pronates...needs a cushioned stability shoe." Just my $.02...Al

I'm a Saucony girl. But it's good to know about another good serious shoe.

Just one thing, Glenn ... you need to get a more positive attitude!

I spent my life just buying running/walking shoes at Kohl's, but was never happy. Finally I went to a running store where they really find out what works for you. What a difference! And yes, it costs more, but my poor knees are worth it. I'm a Saucony girl. (Not sure if that's how it's spelled.)

Running shoes are really the only thing I splurge on. Clothes are typically from Costco or Kohl's with their tons of coupons. Just got the cutest down vest from Costco, along with a few pairs of leggings for cooler weather walking/running.

My 1/2 is next Saturday October 14th!! I am so psyched its not even funny. I did not really run before my surgery. Well, I ran when I was in my 20's but I was still heavier than I am now. I would describe the running pre-surgery as plodding..... Now I actually run. I ran a 5k in 22:04 this year, ran two triathlons, and am about to run the furthest I ever have in the 1/2 marathon. I am hoping to run somewhere around 1:55:00. I think that is very respectable. Can't wait for the spring 2018 triathlon season to kick off (I know, it's a little bit early, but I'm excited). I am planning on incorporating some speed work into my training this coming spring, and am really hoping to run sub 22:00 5k times in a triathlon. My real goal for 2018 is to run a 70.3 half ironman triathlon (1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, 13.1 mile run). Should be fun. My wife will likely kill me, but I'm really looking forward to getting into the training next year. The half marathon next week is really just mental floss for me to confirm I can do it, and then put it together with a long bike and swim next year.

Who knows, if my body doesn't break down, I might be training for a full Ironman in 2019. It would be incredible to cross that finish line and hear Mike Riley say "Glenn, You are an IRONMAN!!!"

I'd probably break down and cry!

Ooooohhhhhhh!!! Thank you!! I was needing some good new running shoes. I have used New Balance and Brooks. They have always ben een I think our bones are a lot more delicate since being sleeved. I am going to see if I can find these in a store so I can try them. It is funny because my knee was giving me trouble in the same place. I have been using a knee brace to run in. I am going to totally look into going to get these. There is a local store that has them so I am going to go try them on.

Jeez, Louise! Your times are amaze-balls!

BTW, my shrink says that WLS patients who maintain their weight lifelong are those who find new reasons in their lives to be fit. In other words, it's not just low weight for the sake of low weight -- but maintaining our weight loss as a means to achieving other goals that mean a lot to us.

Glenn, I think you've found your thang!

    You, too, Christie.

OMG so exciting and you are so fast!!! my half time is 2.20 and im always pleased with that lol! to get it down would be great. sounds like you have some good sporty plans! I love the running community, even though im currently overweight ive always had ace support. My last race was 30 km. i remember standing at a drinks station 26 km in thinking the last 4 would be the longest of my life!!! And it was! But its such a great sport. i would cry too if i finished an iron man!!!!!
