    Default Itchy belly?!

I am currently 1 week postop & my incisions have healed to the point where the glue on top has fallen off. It was always relatively itchy, however now I'm experiencing what I think is hives around the incision areas & all over my stomach. It is insanely itchy! 😫 Anyone else experience this? Possible allergic reaction to the glue maybe?

I had that, sort of a rash all over my stomach. It didn't last long, maybe a week. I think it's normal, but you may want to call your surgeon to check.

It could definantly be a reaction to what they used to clean your stomach or the glue. Call your doctor and tell them so they can tell you if you can take benedryl or use benedryl cream to relieve the itchyness

My incisions itched too. I had a spray antiseptic that I used twice a day and then bandaged them. It did not last too long but I remember it

Yup. First week or so my abdomen itched like crazy. It would wake me up at night. I wouldn't say I had hives, but lots of small bumps. Went away after the first week. Actually it just got less itchy after the first week and was completely gone after 2 - 3 weeks. It never got bad enough that I needed to call my Dr. I just toughed it out.

Yay I'm not weirder than I thought! lol Talked to my doctor's office today & yeah they told me to just get some Benadryl & let them know if it gets worse. Said I'm likely allergic to the Dermabond they use to seal the wounds. Thanks for the comfort y'all!

I'd ask your surgeon just to be sure it's not an infection. My rash was all over my at the time very large tummy.

My daughter, who is a doctor, just laughed at me when I complained of this. She thought my rash was caused by being shaved in that delicate tummy area prior to surgery. I have the most sensitive skin, so I just accepted her explanation.

I just hate that there was no heads up about this possibility. My doc's office is acting like this never happens, but apparently that's not the case! And if it is this common, why are they still using Dermabond?! This allergic reaction is the worst part now! Freaking nightmare that won't end...

Healing wounds itch. I also get little rashes pretty often since surgery on my stomach but the do not last long. Often it is after exercising but it happens other times as well.

LOL this is the best thread I've read yet! I'm about 1 week out as well and my stomach is driving me insane. I've been using benadryl cream and then hydrocortisone. I sit around and scratch my tummy lightly through my binder-thingy. my best friend says i look like i'm a pregnant lady scratching her belly lol.... so glad i'm not going insane!!

    Cheers!!

I'm just 6 days out and am itching too. Oddly, it's not so much the wounds themselves as it is the skin about a half inch around them.

Taking the bandages off has helped. (Hope I didn't remove them too soon, but my wounds aren't excreting anything, and it feels so much better without them.)

I did the same thing! Constant light itching or else I'd lose it. lol I'm finding the general itchy belly is common, but the severe red elevated skin reaction I had around my incisions was definitely an allergic reaction. Even had hives bumps on my sides. They had me taking the clear dye/sugar free Benadryl & I got their itch cream too. Made me ridiculously drowsy which was just great when you're also being told get up & be active. Haha That all helped it go away though so all better. They just told me to let surgeons know from now on that they have to use steristrips instead of the dermabond.

    Good luck on your journey!
