Red face MaeB's Journey (with pictures)

Hello everyone, I figure because I am at the start of my journey (absolute start.) it would be good for me to start posting here and thus being able to keep track of everything.

I am a 30 y/o woman, I weigh 257.4 lbs/117 kg. My PCP is referring me to a bariatric surgeon.

Right now, I am trying to start eating like I have already had the band done. I am cutting out red meats, trying to cut out fried foods, and trying to eat five small meals a day and actually chew.

I feel like starting off like this will make things easier for me in the long run, although while working on eating slow I have come to the realization of why I eat so fast. I don't like people seeing me eat. I also remember meal times with my family being tense so I would always try and finish up so I didn't have to deal with that stuff.

It is weird how only like a week of doing that has helped me see one of the reasons why I do it.

Here is my picture for the week.

Hi Amanda. Are you getting the sleeve or the lap band? For us sleevers red meat is fine. Obviously lean cuts of meat are better but red meat is not off limits.

I'm getting the sleeve done, I am cutting back on red meat because leaner cuts are better and because I don't have my gallbladder anymore so I figured I could just cut that out.

Just got my sleeve a week ago. Congrats on such a brave honest start! Those strong attributes alone are going to carry you through this.

Hi!! I was 31 and 255lbs when I went in for the sleeve and it was the best decision of my life! Keeping this journal will be great for you and those who want to follow your journey. A year or so from now you are going to love going back and reading (I was such a complainer lol)
    sleeved 12/30/14 @255lbs Goal 140lbs
    3/3/15- 208lbs 6/14/15- 163lbs
    lost 92lbs in 1st 6mo
    9/10/15- 139 1/5/2016 - 128lbs
    lost 128lbs in 1 year
    4/4/16 - 123lbs 7/4/16 - 129lbs 12/3/16- 130
    still 128lb loss@2 year mark-11lbs below goal
gained 13lbs by 3 year mark weighing 142lbs
Gained up to 158 by 3 years 3 months!
    3.5 years back to 142
    hoping to stay between 140lbs-145lbs
4 years hanging in between 145 and 150
5 year mark! ugh! Up to 160! Time to get back track!

Thanks you everyone for the super warm welcome. I will keep on blogging for sure. I am loving lurking around the site for sure. And I do hope as things go along other people will be able to use my journal as a reference for how one person experienced things.

But yesterday I told my brother about getting the gastric sleeve, he feels like it is too dangerous to do. I gently and firmly reminded him I already had surgeries that are supposed to have more complications. And he just grumbled. Which is to be expected, he is worried about my dying- but luckily one of his favorite Youtubers got the bypass done so he is kinda watching that journey unfold.

So far I had a small non-scale victory today when I couldn't finish my carnation breakfast shake in one go- so it was half full for my second mini-meal of the day. Maybe it will keep up like this?

    New Day New Entry

I am eating a small meal every two hours, and I have to say its been working pretty darn swell. Although I find myself looking forward to the times that I eat, like a child waiting for snack time. I assume that isn't a bad thing- but it is something I want to work on.

Today I ate an entire pack of jerky- I tell myself at least it is less calories then a candy bar and more filling- but I ate it all because I was emotional. I need to learn how to not turn to food as a first instinct when things get rough on me. After all, thats how I ended up here right? I remember my first binge- a peanut butter sandwich, half a block of cheese, ramen noodles, and soda. It might not be much now to me, but back then it was a lot.

I think I did it then so I could feel like I had control over something.

Its Thurday and I weigh 255.5! Slow and steady wins the race right? I got referred to Bariatrics on Monday, waiting for the call, I talked to my therapist and he says he thinks I'm read for surgery. So I am glad I have been talking to him before I even was this far along. I am going to look for an OA in my area for me to start going to. Or at least an online one (which I would actually prefer)

My brother has found our old DDR mats and set it up so we could start doing that again, so I am excited!

I bought a book today about getting the gastric sleeve, I am studying as much as I can so I can be ready for the meeting and the psychosocial test they have people do. I've done 30 minutes of DDR today, and yesterday I swam for 30 minutes. If I can get 30 minutes in each day that 210 minutes- which is like 60 more then what mayo clinic suggests!

And because I forgot to post it yesterday:

    SW: 260
CW: 255.4 (4.6 pounds lost since I started!)
    GW1: 220
    GW2: 199 (oneder land!)
    GW3: 170
    UGW: 150
