Default The New Atkins Shakes vs Old

My pre-op (and post-op) diet sheet from my Dr. says I can have "Atkins Advantage" ready made shakes. Well Atkins doesn't make the "Advantage" shakes anymore. They now just say "Atkins" on the box, and the formula has changed just a little. The main thing is that the newer one has more fiber and more carbs. The old Advantage shakes had 1g of fiber while the newer ones have 3g. The Advantage shakes had 1g of carbs and the newer one has 2g. HOWEVER, it starts out with 5g of carbs. The box info claims that, since this new formula has more fiber, you end up with 2g of NET carbs: 5G of carbs - 3G of fiber = 2G of carbs

I doubt that 1g more of carbs is a big deal, but I'm leery of the way they came up with that amount. Does the fiber really offset the carb count that much?

Also, has anyone's doctor said they can have Egg Beater before and after surgery? I ask because I'm allowed to have sugar free Jello. Egg Beater, like the Jello, has almost nothing in it. Just 1g of carbs, 25 calories, 95mg of sodium, 75mg of potassium, and 5g of protien.

Yes, the carbs are indeed calculated that way. My nutritionist gave me the same way of calculating and that was the way it was done on low carb diets. As for the egg beater, every pre op is completely different. I could eat 1 meal a day (and the rest liquids) and only had all liquids for 3 days.
