Default Drinking while eating: why isn't this advice given as general weight loss advice?

I was sleeved two months ago. I need to update my profile.

Okay I will not go into nutrients because upon my research I have found a mixed bag. Some people say drinking water breaks down the nutrients and makes them easier to absorb. Some say not.

What I want to talk about is how water flushes out your food and makes you hungrier quicker. I definitely have noticed that if I have a drink with my meals, I am hungry about an hour later. When I do not drink anything while I eat, I feel full longer. This all makes sense right?

So my question is this. If this is true, why wouldn't this theory work for someone who has not had gastric sleeve surgery? It's the same concept just a different scale. A larger stomach. But I would assume the same rules apply. Fill up a space with food, and liquids make it slide out easier. But researching through the internet, I cant really find any examples of people mentioning doing this without gastric sleeve. In fact, I find the opposite to be true, people drink water right before they eat to fill themselves up. Huh?

We are told liquids go right through us immediately right? And we have a smaller opening. So if liquids go through us fast wouldn't it go through people with a normal sized stomach even faster?

I think it has a lot to do with quantity and quality. For along time now i have not drank while eating i have it there in case i need it but as a general rule i just dont. Still i am over weight, i still over eat, i still dont watch my portion size or am mindful of what i put in my mouth as closely as i should. Even when i was on weight watchers years ago i would tell myself ohhhhh free food yeah i can have as much of that as i want. i think the main thing with me is portion control however i know i just cant do it alone. So for me like i said i dont drink while eating and im still over weight but its a me thing.

I am not sure, but at almost 4 months post-op, when I drink after I have eaten it is painful. It is almost like whatever I am eating actually blows up. I have not done it very often but whenever I have, by habit, I remember why I don't even bring a glass to the dinner table. LOL xo

I was under the impression that the eating while drinking is because if we drink we will not get in enough food. Not because it passes through us quicker. At any rate, I drink some when I eat but minimally and I try not to.

I was under the impression that drinking while eating stretches your sleeve.

    You see thats the thing.

Some say drinking while eating fills you up and you dont eat enough protein.
Some day drinking makes the solid food pass through faster, making you hungry again sooner.

It has to be one or the other. Someone is lying, and these are doctors for crying out loud.

People with normal stomachs have pyloric valves that control the exit of foods and fluids in an orderly fashion. Those of us who are sleeved have pyloric valves that control the exit of foods and fluids in an orderly fashion.

People with gastric bypass, however, no longer have the pyloric valve. Their stomach has been turned into a pouch with a simple stoma. If they drink with meals, the food will flush into the small intestine. Soon after, they become hungry.

The 'no drinking with meals' rule is one that originally applied to gastric bypass patients before getting broadly applied to all bariatric surgery patients.

Nonetheless, a sleever who drinks with meals won't flush the food into the small intestine any sooner because the intact pyloric valve will prevent that. At the most, fluids may reduce the meal's thickness into a slurry that can exit the stomach sooner.
