Decision made, consultation with MD in 2 days

Hi all, I'm extremely nervous and I'm only at the very beginning of my VGS journey. I finally made the decision to have it done. My insurance company is completely worthless and VGS is an exclusion so this will be self pay. My BMI is 48.7 ☹️ and I have several health conditions that my primary care physician is strongly recommending VGS surgery. My wife can't or won't understand completely why I need to have this done. She has seen me lose and gain weight for over 20 years, and she constantly says to me "you don't need this, you've lost the weight before, you can do it again...". That's the point exactly, the yoyo of my weight has put my life in jeopardy and my health is deteriorating 😢. So my support system at home is poor at best. I'm addicted to food and large quantities. I'm a very vain person and appearance is always looming over my head. I am hoping that this blog and the people that use it can help and support me through this critical time. congrats on making the decision to better your health. I hope things get better for you and maybe over time she will come to see its the best decision for you. Maybe help her by giving her some information to read over so she might understand the procedure better and how it has helped so many people.

I'm addicted to food and large quantities.

Welcome, and congratulations for making the decision to improve your life/health.

I simply wanted to mention that weight loss surgery does not cure food addiction. Once your stomach heals (6 months post-surgery), you can resume eating large quantities of food. People have regained 150+ pounds with a sleeve by going off the rails with their eating.

I also wanted to mention the concept of slider foods such as crackers, popcorn, chips and cookies. Sleeved people can eat unlimited quantities of these foods without ever feeling full because they turn into a liquid slurry that never challenges your reduced-size stomach.

If your food addiction is genuine, my suggestion is to seek counseling before your stomach relaxes enough to accommodate more food. 90 percent of success with bariatric surgery is psychological. A restricted stomach can be "eaten" around.

I am 5 days post op and had very little support at home or from fam. I told 1 friend who supported me. But this forum is a great resource and support. You know what YOU need to do. Follow that! I wish you much success.

Welcome!! It is work but you can do it. Success does take perseverance and commitment but it is totally achievable. Hope you find support at home but ultimately it is all up to you. This place is great and reach out any time you need encouragement, advice, or help.
