    Default stomach pain

Hello fellow sleevers, or sleevers to be.
I am 10 months out. Lost 80 lbs so far. A couple weeks ago I had bad stomach pain, it lasted for a few mins. Had some ginger tea and a couple tablets of gas med. I figured it was gas, because after the tablets it went away.

Then last night the pain came back again I quickly had 2 tablets but the pain didnt go away. It was terrible. Its like my stomach was cramping up. I could not get into any position to ease the pain. I dragged myself to the kitchen to make some ginger tea quick, all while in agony. Had a few sips but still not working. I took a third gas tablet then about 3 mins later it finally let up. It lasted for at least 20 mins. severe pain.

This morning my stomach and lower chest and middle back is sore. I am going to call the doctor now. But has anyone experienced this? Could it be the gallbladder? Thank you.

Could be kidney or gallstones but pain that severe does warrant a call to your doctor.

That stinks. Gallstones are common for WLS patients so it would not be unheard of.

Sounds like gallstones! Severe pain then it goes away! I had my gallbladder removed, gallstones cause terrible sharp and severe pain in the stomach.

Saw a doctor, and I have to do an ultrasound in the morning. He has no idea what is wrong. So We'll see what happens.

Good news! Thanks for letting us know.

Ten days post-op I had my very first gall bladder attack. Had it taken out (by my bariatric surgeon) 4 weeks after my sleeve surgery. Three years and 3 months post-op, I'm still doing great.

And to CamCat -- it's not the surgery that's connected to gall bladder issues, but most likely a lifetime of yo-yo dieting and bad dietary choices. But, yes, rapid weight loss can cause gall bladder stones to form -- usually over a long period of time.

Wondering if those of you who had problems with gall bladder were taking Ursodiol? My surgeon wants me to start on it post op to prevent gall bladder issues. In general, I avoid taking meds I don't absolutely need and this one seems to have some side effects. But I guess it may be better than gall bladder surgery....

I know that some surgeons whip out your gall bladder at the same time. Not in Australia, the stats here are that only 25% of WLS patients get gall bladder problems aterwards.

My doctor put me on Ursodiol immediately post-op. At first I had to break the capsule and mix it with anything smooth like applesauce or SF pudding. 4 weeks post-op I was allowed to swallow it. I have to take it twice a day for the first 5 months. This is to prevent gallstones from forming. Considering how common this occurs in WLS patients, I am surprised it is not a standard practice.

I never heard of it. But yes, it would be a good idea to make it standard. I would have taken it if I knew it would have helped with my gall bladder. Stones are so painful.
