Talking Calorie intake once you get to your goal weight?

    Hi everyone!

I am 10 months out and about 5 lbs from my goal weight. Just wondering how many calories you all are eating to maintain? I'm at about 1000 on days when I'm careful...thinking maybe I should up it if I don't want to lose more.

    Thanks!!!

congratulations on almost reaching your goal weight, that's awesome‼️ I'm on the home stretch. I have about 48lbs left. When I started I had 160lbs to loose. All the best to you.

The answers to this question (a good question, btw) vary considerably. It depends on your muscle mass, your height, your age, your activity level, and plain dumb luck over whether you drew the metabolic short or long straw.

I know people who maintain on 1100 calories a day. And others who maintain on 2500 calories a day.

I'm just over 3 years post-op, 71 years old, a woman, weigh 135 pounds at 5'5", exercise 5 days a week, and am pretty active around the house, our property and running errands. My daily maintenance budget averages 1,725 calories a day. I eat around 100 grams of protein a day, 5-8 servings of fibrous veggies and fruits, whole grains, some alcohol, a few sweets, occasional pizza, dessert and what-not, and take all my meds and supplements every day. In other words, I'm a very compliant sleeve patient in maintenance.

Oh, and I continue to work hard in therapy to learn how not to use food as a drug to dull unpleasant emotions and life's stresses which never, ever end.

That works for me. You have to find out what works for you. The only way I know how to do that is to track your food for quite a while until you figure it out. Not everybody does it this way. But as I said, that's how I figured out my maintenance scene.

    Good luck to you!

I'm a short (5'1") hypothyroid, insulin-resistant female in my mid-30s who maintains in the 118 to 122-pound range on 2000 to 2300 calories daily. I've been in maintenance approximately 1 year.

I run 20 miles weekly, lift heavy weights 3 times weekly, and supplement with other cardio such as stationary cycling and the elliptical machine. When I'm sedentary and not exercising, I find I can maintain in the 1700 to 1800 calorie-a-day range.

I do not count my calories. I work out and eat pretty much everything now. I know that my working out allows me to eat a decent amount. I weigh daily so I know exactly how my body is responding to what I am doing. I am not a tracker so I could not tell you how many calories I eat.
