    Default 4 Years Post-op - weightloss drugs

Anyone take prescribed weight loss drugs to jump start stall? Did you see your surgeon or a primary care physician? I have tried a few drugs, but the side affects weren't good and I didn't see any loss. I am considering Contrave. I would appreciate any input.

I am 4 years post-op, I lost 60 lbs and have gained 8 back. I still have restriction, but hungry all the time. I get in my water, vitamins and about 70+ grams of protein a day. I exercise 2-3 times a week walking.

I know about the 5-day reset, protein first, etc. I have tried all those things.

Can I ask why you might consider Contrave? If you don't have food eating issues I don't know that it's the right choice for you. It's an antidepressant and helps curve appetite.

I think it's just me and my sleeve. Nothing else has helped in the past, and I think now I have the perfect tool. (I too am struggling with a 5 pound regain, sleeved the week before you!)

I would definitely consult my surgeon (or my PCP as long as they know about the sleeve) before starting any kind of WL supplement. I agree with Sraebaer though. None of that helped me before. Good luck to you for finding something that works for you.

I see nothing wrong with using another tool to fight the battle of obesity. It won't let me link it, but Dr Duc Vuong has a short video on Youtube about it. He and another Harvard educated Bariatric surgeon advocate the use of them temporarily after WLS.

I would actually just start counting your calories. Are you getting more calories with non-filling foods? What I mean is- If you're using a lot of butter or oil, plus cream in your coffee, and high calorie drinks, or lot of salad dressing, or crackers, then you won't have as much room for real food to keep you full.

Look for filling food too. I love zucchini noodles and spaghetti squash as a side dish or apples as a snack. Try counting calories and sticking to 1500 to start and see how your weight does after a week or two. If it's not moving and you're not starving, lower it to 1200.

I went through the hope of a diet pill fix when I'd gained 15lbs over my goal weight. I was freaking out and feeling like such a failure. I decided to take hydroxycut. I actually gained 10lbs while I was on it. I was devastated and felt hopeless which led to more self loathing than I'd had before I took the hydroxycut - which was a LOT. Well, self loathing led to more weight gain, of course. I felt like the definition of insanity.
An 8lb gain is definitely a warning sign and something you should pay attention to, but it's something you can still control with some effort of your own. You lost so much weight through hard work. You don't need that crutch to lose 8lbs when you lost so much without it. You can do it on your own. You have!
I admit I still want diet pills but I remember they didn't work before and won't work now. The diet pill roller coaster is what started my road to obesity. And the hydroxycut was such a harsh reminder of that.
Everyone is different. Just please be careful.
