    Question New to the forum

Hello all! I have surgery scheduled for October 9th after a 20 year battle with my weight. It has been a change focusing on myself and taking the steps I need, in order to be the healthiest version of me. I have spent the last 11 years focusing only on my children, while putting myself last. I am sure this is a similar story to quite a few of you!

My biggest question is how long did it take for you to get back to work after surgery? I walk a bout 4-5 miles a day in my job (going between meetings) but can work from home, if needed. What was your experience?

    Thank you in advance!

It really all depends on your recovery. I personally took off two weeks and needed everyday of it-due to complications.

    Two weeks in my case.

I napped a lot. Never napped before.

FYI, pain wasn't an issue for me.

    Welcome.

Hi there, and welcome. I had planned on just being off for 2 weeks, but due to a problem regulating my medications, I was off for 3 weeks. If everything had been sorted out sooner, I'm pretty sure I could have gone back after just 2 weeks. I had almost no post-op pain, so that wasn't an issue for me.

Hello there! I am new to this...however, I did have Gastric Sleeve Surgery on January 16, 2017 and I have lost 55 pounds...but I have been stuck at the same weight for over a month and I am very aggravated by that!!

I too have struggled with my weight for about 20+ years....I have done WW, The Weigh Station, Nutri-System and just cutting out carbs....I had lost on my own 37+ pounds in 2014 and then my mom because ill w/terminal Lung Cancer and the weight quickly came right back in about a year.

I had in 2011 gotten to the last phase of preparation to have the Gastric Bypass and I chickened out...then I met 2 ladies that had the Gastric Sleeve and that is when I decided....I am doing this! I went back, talked to the PA and the Doc and of course the Dietician and here I am...

It is one of the best things you can do for yourself....when you start losing....make sure you get clothes that can either be taken in easily or something...where I am a nurse, we trade off on our scrubs....I was in 2X Tops and XL pants and I wore them until I could not tie them any tighter!

I wish you luck and will say a prayer for ya! I am in Virginia! So we aren't that far apart! LOL

Hello Linda - does Linda51 mean your age? I am also 5 and I had Gastric Sleeve in January 16, 2017...best things I have ever done!
How are you doing on your eating....actually I am very interested in knowing what you eat or rather are allowed to eat...they told me once I got so far to eat 70grams of protein daily, 100grams of carbs and 800-1000 calories....what did your doctor and dietician tell you?

I was 244 when I started and I am down 55 pounds...but I have been stuck for over a month and am very disgruntled! I am going to have to go back they said and start writing everything down and tracking everything to see if they can help me pinpoint my problem! UGH...if you don't mind...let me know about the food.

2 was out 2 weeks total, no pain....just be very careful of how fast you drink the liquids that they tell you to drink...whether it be water, soup or whatever....drink slow (NOT STRAWS) and make sure you crush your vitamins or meds really fine...you can put it in your soup or broth!

Congratulations! Good luck. I am 8 days post-surgery and I have a desk job and I am at my desk. I don't know if I could walk 4-5 miles a day for my job but I have to force myself to exercise lest I get to immobile. If you have to do that much walking, it may take longer.

I took only a week off and went back to work. I have a desk job though and the walking around for meetings and the like is not too terribly much. I think the walking 4-5 miles a day while at work may be a bit much in the beginning but you never know. Everyone reacts differently to the sleeve. I slept a lot off and on the first week but definitely after that was feeling pretty great. I didn't have any complications, though.
