Default Kidney stone, nausea and confused....

Thursday night I was in ER with excruciating pain in my lower right back. It turned out that I had developed a
5mm kidney stone. I am really struggling now to get in liquids. Nothing tastes right to me. The last few days I have had zero appetite and food makes me feel sick too.

Guess I'm reaching out to others to see if anyone else experienced this and if anything helped.

I quit taking all my vitamins because the NUT put me on 500mg calcium citrate 3 times a day... and I read kidney stones are calcium build up. I'm also on 2 bariactrc advantage, b12, b1,....

    I'm confused a feel terrible.

Did your blood work indicate you needed the vitamins you're taking? You may only need the multi-vitamin. I've had kidney stones and the most important thing for me was to drink more water, not coffee, jello, Gatorade etc, just plain water. If you don't drink enough you'll end up dehydrated and back in the hospital. Dehydration can also cause kidney stones. Good luck passing the stone

Thank you. What really stinks is that I have been so nauseated that water tastes like it has soap in it and I can't drink it. I try to make myself and don't get very much in.

Bless your heart. I've had kidney stones all of my life. I can remember they felt worse than anything. I'll cross my fingers, toes and eyes that they get gone soon. Every person in this world has the stones, but dehydration will make them begin moving. I guess then it makes sense that this surgery may spur them on as so many struggle getting in fluids. Best of luck to you hon!

I had a kidney stone about 6 weeks after my surgery and they told me it was probably from dehydration. I had a hard time with water too. I use mio in my water and that helps. I also found that water gave me heartburn so I take an antacid now. I used to only be able to drink water if it was super cold, now I drink it closer to room temperature with mio and that seems to help. I understand the excruciating pain of kidney stones and am very scared of another one. I thought I had some major complication from surgery when the pain first started.

    Gigi,

Take it from someone who has had kidney stones for over 35 years, you have to drink. Because of my history with kidney stones, my doctor had me drinking 1/2 cranberry juice with 1/2 water right out of surgery. Hopefully you will tolerate that better than plain water. Kidney stones can be calcium or they can be protein. Mine tend to be protein since I've been doing high protein, low carb diets most of my adult life. But the best thing you can do is drink and then drink some more.

You guys are the best. I was feeling very frustrated. Surgeon said talk to PCP, PCP says go to ER, ER directed me to urologist ... And the circle goes round and round. I feel better and have an appointment with the urologist Wed. If I get dehydrated, in pain I can't control ormy temp goes up I'm heading back to ER.

Funny you should mention this. I had a kidney stone two days ago and it was PAINFUL. First one in my life. It sounds like liquids are the answer, but I am having a hard time keeping liquids down right now. I recently upped my vitamin D which helped with my arthritis in my thumbs, but now I hear EXCESSIVE vitamin D can cause stones.

Gigi -- Mio also helped me a lot in the early months get water down. I'd definitely use it now in your shoes.

Don't worry so much about missing any of your minerals / vitamin supplements for a few days or even a few weeks. You've got plenty of time to get all that sorted out after you get rid of that effing kidney stone(s).

I hope you feel much better very fast!

Thanks Ann (hugs) I had surgery last Friday and they broke up the 7mm stone. It had not moved so I was very glad we were aggressive in getting rid of it!

    Appreciate your support xoxoxoxoxo

Sorry to hear you're in pain. My daughter had one also caused by dehydration. They told her to stop drinking anything with caffeine and drink lots of water. Good luck! I hope you feel better soon.

Oh no!!! I'm so sorry you are experiencing a kidney stone(s) too. Mine ended up being 7mm and they had to break it up to pass it. I'm not sure if it's gone or not but I pray that it is. You said stones? I only had one and it literally brought me to my knees. Prayers and hugs to you. I hope you are feeling better very, very soon!!!!
