I would like to know why do some people loose faster than others? I see some that started when I did and their weight loss is awesome and some of the stats I notice people loose so quickly. Is it because of messed up metabolism?
I can't speak for anyone else, but I seriously couldn't eat much at meals the first couple of months post op. I was pushing it if I could get 1/4 cup of food into me per meal. It was SO difficult to get in everything I was SUPPOSED to be eating. (At 5.5 months out now, my appetite IS back.) I was getting in all of my required protein a day, and all my vitamins and supplements AND I strted walking week two after surgery, outdoors a couple miles a day. I rejoined the gym at 2 months out and started going back when I was cleared for weight strength training by the surgeon. I now go to Zumba Fitness classes twice a week and am down 94 pounds since my pre op diet began before my March surgery. Each person is different, and if you follow your new way of eating habits, the weight will come off.

It seems to be a percentage of body weight. Your starting weight, not as high as others. You are doing great. You lost 4.5 percent of your body eight in twelve days. Just keep what you are doing. Once you can get up and exercising, you will feel those results pretty darn well.
The rate of weight loss during the first year after bariatric surgery is based on one's genetics, even though I'm assured some people will disagree and insist they worked 'harder' than everyone else.
Speed/rate of weight loss after surgery is dictated by markers on chromosome 15. Fortunate persons with two favorable markers of this gene variant are rapid losers while those with one marker lose at an average speed, and the unlucky ones with no markers of the gene variant usually become nonresponders who lose 25 pounds or less.

Also, certain people lose faster such as men, younger women under age 35, the super morbidly obese with BMIs greater than 50, and those without any metabolic diseases.
And other groups generally lose slower such as older persons, racial/ethnic minorities, 'lightweights' who started in the high 100s/low 200s, menopausal women, and those with metabolic diseases (diabetes, PCOS, hypothyroidism).

I agree with the others but I've also noticed weightloss comes off faster for those with much higher amount to loose. Keep up the great work and try not to compare yourself to others. If your following a heathy diet and exercising than the weight will come off. Best of luck to you
What Rehab Nurse said. And truthfully everyone has their own unique journey. Even 2 people who are very similar and have similar post sleeve lifestyles can have different speeds of weight loss. Just remember that you do have more control in your journey than you think. Find what works for you and stick with it.
It's not really a calculation, per se. If your starting weight is 203, you're considered a 'lightweight' in the world of bariatric surgery. And more often than not, lightweights generally lose at a slower rate because they have far less to lose.
You'd probably be dropping the pounds like a house on fire if you weighed 390 pounds and had 250+ pounds to lose to get to your goal weight. The bigger a person is, the more muscle mass he/she has, and the faster the metabolic rate.
A super morbidly obese person with 250+ pounds of excess body weight can lose it at 20 to 30+ pounds monthly for a while. Someone with 70 pounds to lose definitely isn't going to lose at 20 to 30 pounds each month.

9 divided by 203 equals .044 or 4.4%. Weight lost divided by starting weight.
We're all different people, we are going to lose at different rates. But if you are eating how you should and following all the bariatric rules you WILL lose you weight! Try not to compare yourself with others.
Hi, I saw those big numbers too, and it worried me (still does), but I have come to the realization that slow is better for my skin- so I am Ok with slow. I also think this is my lifestyle now. I know I am going to lose weight, So I try to relax and learn this new way of life. Look up some of the veterans on here - I especially love "Tinman"'s attitude and advice.
I really think it is a combination of a few factors. 1. being the way you eat, (ie. amounts and frequency, and caloric intake. 2. amount of sleep your body gets. 3. amount of fluids you take in. and 4. the amount of exercise being done. Also remember Men historically lose weight faster and better then woman. Not my words but my doctors. Just speaking for my self....... I have dedicated the rest of my life to eating well and exercising regularly. I have cut out all rice, pasta, and bread since the surgery ( these to me are my GATEWAY DRUG to eating poorly again.) I am ok with this. I eat boneless skinless chicken breast, roasted veggies, still protein shakes after the gym, lowfat yogurt, and the occasional cheese stick. I try to only use healthy fats. Avacado oil coconut oil. This is just my 2 cents... I am almost 1 full year out from my sleeve and am down 120 pounds. I really work hard at this each day.
