    Default 8 days post op

Hi everyone! I posted one thread here before and everyone was so helpful. I hope everyone is doing well.

I am 8 days out of surgery. My pre op diet was 10 days. I stuck to it completely except for a bite of Tuna Sashimi one evening. I actually enjoyed the diet with the exception of the shakes. I tried multiple different brands and each one was worse than the next.

I am now 8 days out of surgery. I had a lot of nausea right out of surgery and could not drink the water so they moved me to jello and broth which I did great on. I am down a total now of 28 pounds since I started the pre-op. More importantly, my blood sugar which was 250-300 is now holding steadily at 80-90.

Here is where I am having trouble and was looking for some help. I cannot drink these sweet shakes. The taste is WORSE now than before. I have not cheated at ALL. I see my dr tomorrow and will have to tell her I can barely drink 1/2 a shake.

Are there others here who just couldnt drink the shakes? What did you end up doing?

Oh God YESSSS!!!!! The sweet of the protein shakes grossed me out post op. I could only get my protein in by eating creamed soups made with nonfat milk. The best kind of milk is the Fa!rlife milk because it has extra protein and less milk sugars. Eventually I was able to drink the shakes again. The only kind I really liked was the EAS Advant Edge in chocolate only. I also did the Oikos Triple Zero Greek Yogurt. I did not have any problems losing weight by slightly modifying things. I did follow low carb as recommended by my NUT.

You can make your own shakes. I use protein powder, vanilla or chocolate, with unsweetened vanilla almond milk. The taste and texture is much more palatable.

Did you try the Premier brand? I had a hard time finding shakes I like and love this brand! However, I found chocolate and vanilla to be too sweet for me but I really enjoy the Strawberries n' Cream and Caramel flavored ones.

30 grams of Protein with only 160 Calories, 1 gram of sugar.

    Best of luck to you!

The unflavored protein powder is a good suggestion. The dietitian in the hospital gave me some samples of Unjury, a flavorless protein powder. You could add it to any of your drinks. You can also add it to soups or broths up to 140 degrees. There's also a chicken flavored variety that tasted good in my soup.

I am still preOp and have already started having issues with sweetness. I found an unflavored whey isolate (because i have issues with milk) on Amazon from Now Sports, I got 5lbs for about $50. - I did a lot of research and read a lot of reviews - I have been looking up how to get my protein in and you can mix this stuff with everything from Crystal Light (which I mix with less powder b/c i find it too sweet) to yogurt and cottage cheese.
If I were you I would shop around and read reviews though and check on Pinterest, I get loads of ideas from there!

    Good Luck!

I had a HUGE problem finding a shake I could take.. My main issue was I couldn't take them if they were Frothy. After many reviews I ordered all the Unjury shakes but didn't really like them.. As another user already said I found EAS to be pleasant and stay down. I am on my 2nd bucket of EAS 100% whey shake mix.

Hi everyone! Thank you so much for all the responses. I hope when I get further along, I can be of support to others.

I had my dr appt today and they moved me to soft foods. I mixed in the protein powder with some greek yogurt and tolerated it well. I also mixed it in with milk and a splash of cold brew coffee and ice and that was good also!
